I don't know if the tires are supposed to be off the ground or it's simply the way this works but my tires are also off the ground in most situations which I've come to expect and have never had a problem. If I have "auto" levelers I should be able to press the button and let it "auto" level. That said I can manually level it in many cases in the exact same spot without my tires being off the ground. The one thing I do like with the tires off the ground is the distance from the bottom step to the ground is most often the same as the first step. I have misjudged that step more than once when this is not the case and nearly fell out the door.
