Always level before extending the slide, retract the slide before retracting the jacks. Jacks should always be the first and last thing you do.
Generally as soon as I park and set the parking brake I put the jacks down with the engine still running. When ready to leave I get everything put away, retract the slide, start the engine and then retract the jacks.
A checklist would help to make sure you get everything done, I have two, one for me, one for the wife. The checklists are in the order tasks need to be done, one side is for inside the coach, the other for outside tasks, they are laminated for protection.
