Convinced my wife to attend a local rv show last Summer.
She had similar opinions to your wife regarding rv's. Anyway my suggestion to her was lets go look , if you think the whole idea interests you at all we can rent an rv as the next step and try a vacation in one.
The Vegas was the last rv we saw that day , and we had seen many, after looking it over and seeing the show price she insisted that we buy.
Two big trips so far and she loves it.
