Should never be driven without the safety pins in place. There is another thread where some have drilled another location for the safety pins partially down.. This does at least address the bed 'falling' safety issue - but you may find 'timing issues' with the motors... Schwintek (manufacturer of the slide mechanisms used in Thor bunks and slides) recommends full movement every time - not stopping part way. There are videos on Schwintek site and links from here that show how to reset the timing when needed.
The Ace is a little different though in that the bed doesn't come all the way down to the seat nor does it block any window space which is why I wondered if it were possible!
