Can you measure the starting battery voltage while trying to crank the engine. If the voltage drops a way down, the battery needs charging or maybe replacement. If the voltage doesn't change, see if the starter is getting the voltage. If not, see where the voltage disappears between the battery and the starter.

You will need a volt meter or a test light to do this.
