Can anyone give me info on the DYI vs purchased clips.

I posted a thread about the awning on my Forest River coming out while driving on I95. That was not due to high winds but rather with a defect in the wiring instructions used during the manufacturing process. The incorrect installation process caused the brake in the awning motor to disengage and let the awning deploy. There isn't a clip in the world that would have prevented what happened to me from happening. Dometic had issued an awning recall. however, Forest River did not have adequate assembly records to where they could notify owners with the affected awnings.
The awning motor itself serves as a brake to keep the awning from unrolling while traveling. As long as it is plugged in the brake is engage until you press the extend button.
On the slide toppers the items that look like screws actually engage a detent in the topper roller to keep the topper from unrolling while the slides are fully retracted.
