I am a pre-trip planner, always have been even when we were full timing in our fiver. I check desired routes in advance, consult Trucker's atlas, and start locating fuel stops. My preferred fuel vendor has always been Pilot/Flying J, and that hasn't changed throughout having a diesel and now gas. My RVs have never been less than 56' total length (tow included) so I never felt the desire to fight for space in gas stations designed for cars/vans/small trucks.
The Good Sams Pilot card gives discounts per gallon which keeps them competitive. Currently using the dedicated RV gas lanes I get my receipt at the pump, can use a 6' windshield cleaning brush, and know there will be a parking spot for me if I want to take more of a break.
