I've had what I think was a 12oz dixie bowl in the opening of the sewer dump hole instead of the threaded plug. It's been the same bowl for 2yrs. With the dump turned down the screw plug wouldn't fit and I wasn't about to rotate it all the time! The bowl just happened to be handy and fit perfectly.
Another issue was those wicked screws poking out the bottom of the bay just waiting to rip up some skin during a dump session! Certainly cutting them off from below helps but getting rid of that ring completely provides a little extra room that makes dumping so much easier
With the ring removed it revealed a crudely cut hole so I cut off a couple pointy spots to make it a little more round. Then drew up and printed a simple bowl shape to plug the opening much like the dixie bowl I'd been using that worked so well.
