When Ford introduced the V-10 they were concerned about oiling issues so they had an agreement with Pennzoil and so 5w 20 was born and became the standard in the V-10. I could hardly find it when I had my first V-10 17 years ago.
As for the cost, my local Ford Fleet Service does my oil change for $72 so it isn't worth the effort for me to do it. I drop it off, they shuttle me to work, they pick me up, I go home!
