Not really a downside as you can put the fridge on gas (the switch on the front is Gas or Auto). When on gas it uses 12V to power the controller board and LP for cooling and thus doesn't use nearly as much juice.. In this configuration it doesn't use much LP or 12V power--a lot less than it would if it was using 120V to run a heating element.
