When I was writing my earlier post, I thought about the possible open awning issue. My salesman had suggested we don't leave it open if away so I can see your point.

I saw an adjustable strap wrench at Lowe's that I almost bought, and may eventually get, before finding the wrench online. It was in the area with the household filters. I liked it better than automotive for this since it was a strap and not metal.
