When my coach was first registered the DMV first registered it as a 2014 F53 which was the result of their VIN search. Once they received the paperwork they corrected that to match the paperwork received from the dealer which is 2015 Thor Challenger.
My insurance company has a rider stating the vehicle type is a motor home and uses what is listed in the DMV records.
In Virginia the DMV records are used to collect the Personal Property Tax (PPT) every year so DMV is motivated to have their records correct. A 2015 Challenger is worth more than a 2014 F53 so the PPT is a lot higher. Since the PPT funds the counties they keep DMV straight on issues related to vehicle value.
My Challenger has 2 stickers on the wall by the driver's seat. One is the unfinished vehicle sticker from Ford for the 2014 chassis listing the VIN, GVWR, GCWR etc... and the second is the Thor coach sticker listing the motor home serial number, date of manufacture and motor home year.
