After I had the shower pan support issue resolved I put a bead of 3M 5200 marine sealant on the access cover and then secured in place with the original screws. Since the cover is in the wheel well I figured there is plenty of opportunity for unwanted water to try and get in, hence the marine sealant to keep it out.
