I was up on the roof today checking around. Everything looks good except the black bead around the window above the bunk is starting to crack and peel. Is that part of the seal or just for looks? I haven't noticed any water issues.

If I do need to reseal it, can I just scrape that out from around the window and put a new bead in, or do I need to pull the whole window out? If so, any pointers on how to do so? My Google- and YouTube-foo has failed me. I haven't been able to find any information.

Thanks!

So I'm confused:

Are you talking about a window on the side wall?
Or a vent on the roof?

When you describe being 'on the roof' I think we have to assume you're referring to a vent in the roof as it doesn't look like that model RV has a window in the cab over.

Most roof vents have a layer of sealant applied between the vent frame and the roof. Then the entire joint is covered with a layer of Lap Sealant. Lap sealant comes in a tube like typical caulking but it designed to flow out & fill cracks. If that's what you're looking at, clean the old lap sealant (scrub brush & soapy water then rinse well and allow to dry) and apply a fresh layer of lap sealant.

An alternate is to get a roll of Eternabond Tape and apply that after cleaning as above.

YouTube should have lots of videos showing the application of both options.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I'm talking about that window that you can see above the word "Quantum" on the front. It's triangular in shape and curved to match the front end cap.

So the overhead bunk up front?

Its kinda a halfway roof roof window.

They probably use Geocell Proflex to seal it.

Available on the jungle site.

I think a clean and reseal is the best approach. I believe acetone may help.

I didn't realize that is a window.

Maybe ask an auto glass shop? They have special sealants for automobile glued-in windshields.

For clarity your talking about the skylight in over cab. Do you pictures of seals in question

Congrats on being proactive and checking for leaks early. I would not remove the window. I would remove loose caulk and clean it with mineral spirits. If the window is glass you could use acetone but not it it's Lucite. Put masking tape on the glass/Lucite. Then recaulk as noted above with Geocell Proflex, remove the masking tape when almost dry.
