Hello,

My 2017 THOR ACE 29.4 with a coleman mach/airexel a/c unit started making a whining/squealing noise but still blows cold. It sounds like the fan motor bearing is going maybe? I'll try to attach a recording of it if it will let me.

Thanks Jeff

Nothing to do but decide to tackle it yourself or hire someone to do it for you.

To tackle it yourself you're gonna have to get up on the roof and remove the plastic cover and then maybe a metal cover over the squirrel cage to find the source of the noise.

Thanks ACE, on a big northeast tour in the rig with motorcycles in tow. Probably won’t need it much. Will likely not tackle it until we get to Maine, Vermont or NH where we have some long periods of time, or just wait until home.

Were you able to open the zip file and listen to the recording? I was just trying to get kind of a verification…. Yep it’s a fan motor.

Yeah, I heard it. It's kinda hard to diagnose by just a noise, could be a bearing, could be a wind noise (whistle). You could remove the inside cover and see if you can narrow it down. It doesn't sound like an impending catastrophic failure though.

Thanks I will try that first to see if I can narrow it down.

Update: I removed the inside cover and was able to find the noise. It was the fan shaft coming out of the motor. Applied some silicone lube in there and noise has stayed away for more than 10 days of constantly being on. Also fixed the divider between intake and outflow with some ac duct tape. I fully expect it to return, but so far so good.
