I didn't post this earlier, but on Sept. 28th one of our grand-daughters was involved in a head on collision. She was driving our Kia Rondo and hit by a GMC Yukon driving the wrong way on a divided highway. The other driver died at the scene yet thru several miracles our grand-daughter survived. She suffered 18 broken bones, many hours of surgery, multiple resuscitations and several days later a stroke and brain swelling that required removal of part of her skull.

Almost 3 weeks in ICU and 5 additional weeks in the hospital, but yesterday she made a 3 hour ambulance trip back to Austin to a rehab facility. She has come a long way so far, but the journey ahead will be even longer. We were fortunate that our trailer was already at a project just 1 hr from the hospital so we visited her many times during the 8 weeks.

Wow! That's terrible! I'm so glad she survived and I hope she recovers completely. It's a good thing you were close so you could be there for her.

Take care.

A horrific sight hard to imagine your pain and fear for her. Thankfully she has great Grandparents to help her on the journey back to health. Best wishes for your grandchild Larry.

Larry,
Being a grandfather of 6, I feel your pain. I cannot imagine what you felt, or what you're going through. I know you are strong Christian and you have faith in her complete recovery. You and your granddaughter are in our prayers and if there is anything you need don't hesitate to ask. We're in Weslaco, TX right now.

Travel well, travel safe,
Jim

Wow, she is lucky to be alive. I know this is a long road to haul and it's great you have been able to be there for her. One thing to keep in mind, when I worked in Neuro ICU, we had a saying.... Injuries happen fast to the brain but the brain heals very slowly. Keep this in mind as she struggles to relearn how to do things. Her patience will be tested because she will be very frustrated with herself even when she gets to the point that her deficits are so minute that most don't notice them. She will notice them and it will wear on her. This is where you come in. You don't need to be her cheerleader as much as just there to hold her hand and let her express her frustration. I wish her a full recovery and am glad she has already beaten many odds here.

Words are not adequate to express our thoughts...
But prayers are already sent up and KNOW they are answered..

EVERYTHING else is unimportant and less urgent than it was before - take care and tell her how blessed she is !

We are in the DFW area and if there's anything we can do... do not hesitate to ask - glad to assist !

Thoughts and prayers from here too, having loving and supportive grandparents will surely help...

I will be praying for her speedy, total recovery. I can't imagine the anguish you and your family have gone through.

Your grand-daughters recovery and the strength for your family on the tough road ahead is all in our prayers. The photo of your vehicle...Nothng to say but ..miracle she survived. Please keep us posted on her recovery.

Can't say much that hasn't already been said, but will say your grand-daughter and your family will be in our prayers...GOD BLESS...

UPDATE: Our grand-daughter is progressing very well. Off feeding tube, skipped 'baby' food stage and yesterday for her first 'real' food, we brought in tex-mex. Also starting to talk but doing much of her communications writing on an iPad. Her cognitive functions appear to be very good and she asked if the accident was her fault. She gets to leave rehab for 4 hours in a wheelchair on Thanksgiving. Our other son works for a mobility company and arranged a van for transportation.

I'm glad to hear things are progressing well for her. That's really great that your son was able to arrange transportation. I hope things continue to improve. Have a happy Thanksgiving!
