ace 30.2 slide problem

the slide would not extract or extend today. fuse good. controller didn't have any codes. i removed the ext. and ret. wires from the controller and jump the pins with 12vdc. one motor went to extract the slide while the other motor tried to retract the slide. anyone have an idea why? at least i know the 2 motors are good.
 
My rv has no safety routine that has to be followed but many do.
Not to blame, but I have forgotten routines before.
Since all seems well...did you do the brake and park and key and other routine things?

Someone here this week checked every possible thing on their water heater, pins outs, voltages, switches, pressure, flow...and never checked the fuse.


I'm hoping for you it's just a missed routine step.

e brake was on, engine is off, door was closed. and it was leveled. that's all i remember i had to do. as far as wiring the wires are in connectors. 1 connector for each motor. so they couldn't be plugged in wrong, because no one ever touched them before. pic1.jpg


at the j6 switch i put 12vdc to each terminal one at a time. if i put power to the ext. terminal motor 1 would retract where motor 2 would expand the slide. if i put power to the ret. terminal then the opposite would happen. i don't know what is going on. i do know the toggle switch inside does nothing when pressed.

the only way i could get the slide out was to disconnect 1 motor and apply 12vdc to the other motor. each time i connected 12v to the motor the slide would move about 1". i did that back and forth to each motor until the slide was fully out. that's as far as i got so far.

OK SOME PROGRESS. INSIDE THE CONTROLLER THERE ARE 2 SWITCHES. ONE OF MINE WAS UP THE OTHER DOWN. THAT IS WHY ONE MOTOR WAS MOVING THE SLIDE OUT AND THE OTHER MOVing THE SLIDE IN. I DONT KNOW HOW IT WAS changed, BUT IT WAS. SO NOW BOTH MOTORS MOVE THE SLIDE IN AND OUT AT THE SAME TIME. SO I AM LEFT WITH NO 12VDC TO THE MIDDLE WIRE IN THE TOGGLE SWITCH INSIDE. WHICH MEANS IT IS LOCKED OUT BECAuse of a safety feature not being met. i dont know which one i am forgetting. it is leveled, the engine is off and key out, outside door is closed. any ideas what i am forgetting?
 
Our overhead bed has a separate key to activate, but my slide does not.
Is there a key switch involved with your slide?

If you have a bed or a second slide, swap controllers as a test.

Maybe foot on brake?

I have read that some are engine running and some are engine off.
My rv, for some reason, hasn't any safety features installed by Thor so I can only tell you myriad of variations I've read about.

Is there a YouTube video of your model operating?
It would be odd if there wasn't.

With everything connected as it was originally, and the switches set as you originally found them - before you started troubleshooting...

Make note of any flashing lights on the controller. That will tell you a lot. It's possible that one side/end of the slide is binding. Instructions and explanation is printed on the controller face - see the pic you posted.

Schwintek slide motors have a nasty habit of jumping upward out of their retaining collar. There's several videos on YouTube showing diagnosis.

I might suggest searching for one of those videos. You can check the motors by "feel"... it will be loose, just sitting behind the frame of the slide disengaged from the gear drive... or it may be bound up. The flashing lights will give you a clue as to what the motor is TRYING to do.

Please check those and report back!

CAPSLOCK got stuck?

Looks like you're trying to troubleshoot your problem logically but without reference material. Go to the Thor Owner Resource website and create an account with your VIN. You'll then have access to all the referenced Thor has for your MH including the Schwintek Slide Operations and Troubleshooting manuals.

You probably need to put your DIP switches back to where they were. I believe the motor direction switching is done inside the controller. This is because in order to move both sides of the slide in the same direction; one motor has to turn clockwise and the other motor counter-clockwise. One of the troubleshooting steps has you switch the left and right motor harness plug-ins and when that is done the slide operates the opposite direction of the switch indication.

Power to the switch comes from the controller (see the LCI diagram attached) BUT the power is interrupted by the Thor installed interlock. This interlock appears to be your issue. For your MH the slide is only interlocked by the engine running, not level and no door position. That is where you need to look.

THE CONTROLLER was changed and the original put back because there was no difference. if i apply 12vdc to the ext. or ret. terminal the slide moves in and out perfect. no binding at all. inside the control panel inside the home there are 3 wires connected to the toggle switch. 1 is to retract the slide, the second in to expand the slide, and the middle wire is where the 12vdc is suppose to come from. mine doesnt have the 12vdc. im thinking it is locked out for a safety reason. ( like engine not running, coach not leveled, door open. things like that. i jusr cant figure out what i am forgettingto do.
 
If you've exhausted every possible "safety" feature, maybe consider running a new wire? The only REAL lockout I'd want is the ignition. If key is ON you DEFINITELY don't want the slide extending.

The bummer about these things is it's usually something simple... and often found after "reinventing the wheel"!
 
more progress. thor stated the only thing that would stop the slide is if the engine is running. so i asked where the relay was located. they said under the main bed. will find out tomorrow.

85 = white grd / i do not know where is goes (relay)
86 = yellow when engine on = 12vdc i do not know where it goes (relay)
86= yellow when engine is off = 0vdc i do not know where it goes (relay)
87a = orange black goes to center of toggle switch (relay)
30 = orange unknown and i do not know where it goes (relay)
Green yellow = (extract) from toggle switch to slide controller
Red yellow = (retract) from toggle switch to slide controller
Toggle switch wiring was checked and is good (continuity)


looking at the relay the orange should give 12vdc to the orange black lead when the engine is off. i need to find out where the orange, white, and yellow wires go and what they are for.

When engine is off 12vdc is suppose to be supplied to the orange black on the relay which sends it to the toggle switch

The relay is good. I had 2 identical relays and switch them ( no difference)

i can't seem to get my hands on the correct schematic. i called thor but wasn't sent what i asked for.

why would you do that? there isn't much information there.

Because I can.
Because it is research I won't have to do.
Because it's more information than I had prior.
Because I can extrapolate from this data if I have a problem.
Because it was timely to suggest a Maintenance folder for your rv.
