Today's project was to finish the replacement of the dash HVAC blower motor. It was working but howling - like a dump truck with bad brakes.
Getting it out of course was not easy. I removed the passenger side fold out table, the plastic tray under the table and then the vertical section of the dash in front of the passenger's knees. This vertical section is 1/2" plywood covered with some padding & vinyl. Thor used six 1 3/4" screws to attach it to the rest of the dash assembly. And of course some of those screws were almost inaccessible. I ended up removing the dash vents and squeezing my mitts inside and used a 1/4" drive ratchet with a square drive bit to back them out a few clicks at a time. Why 1 3/4" screws to assemble two pieces of 1/2" plywood?!?
Once the vertical panel was removed I had clear access to the blower motor. Except one of the RivNuts was seized - it'd spin but the screw wouldn't back out. Got that one out with vice grips and brute strength. I cleaned up the threads with a #10-32 tap and used JB Weld to put it back in place.
On to the internets to find a replacement blower motor. My local auto parts store had one that looked right but a trip to the store revealed it was not the same size. I found many web pages listing replacements. The prices ranged from >$200 to ~$60. I decided to take a chance on the less expensive one. https://partshawk.com/four-seasons-75067-hvac-blower-motor.html
With the new blower motor in hand, re-assembly was easy. The JB Weld seems to be holding, I put the vertical panel back in with 1 1/4" screws in easier to access positions and put all the duct work back in place then the fold-out table.
