2024 Thor Compass
Hi All,
For fellow Compass Gemini owners:
1. Since a few days after I bought the Compass, still in the dealership campground, the air conditioning has gone off unexpectedly. It’s Texas so you notice quickly. It says it is offline. Over and over. Works for a week, then not. Every time it’s a temporary fix. There are about three main ones & many variations. The trouble is it goes off in 90-100 degree weather while we are traveling through desert to get home. We regret coming to Texas to buy the Compass. We are still here & its 100 degrees every day. Still having problems. Is this the BPPro, a bad display or what? Wrote BOpro & they were kind enough to send troubleshooting instructions & their online video which should be included in Thor videos.
2. I have a tankless water heater. The water during showering has cycled hot to cold, hot to cold. Is this right? Can this be fixed? I haven’t read anywhere where this is the way it works that during shower after you warm it up it will go cold every few minutes. It’s been consistent since I bought it. Is this how a tankless is supposed to work? Is this fixable? Should I put it on my repair list? Because I’m going to Oregon & in the winter or below 60 degrees this cold period every few minutes is not good. It will be freezing cold.
3. Stove: Anyone else having issues with their stove? Mine blew a huge flame up past head while my daughter was cooking. Haven’t used it since. Are RV stoves dangerous & unreliable? I thought I’d get a slow cooker but the kitchen is small & cabinets & dont know where to put it.
4. What to do about
5. How do you all know maintenance schedule? I need to get it recorded because my warranty depends on it. Anyone has a better maintenance schedule than the one in the book that looks like a check sheet? Is this the one you all follow? How do you keep records of it says you inspect it yourself?
Are there any stellar Thor mechanics & trustworthy dealerships you all recommend. I would like to go somewhere where they do impeccable work. Do you all clean out all belongings when you take it in? I do not want to take it to any Blue Compass dealer. I’m in Texas now & have been worried about driving far because of air conditioning offline unpredictability. I also have not gotten calls back from Thor Customer service when I’ve called after hours. I have not gotten my questions answered correctly. I hope Thor sees this & realizes I bought this RV because I was to receive 24/7 troubleshooting. But they won’t even call back. When they did they didn’t know where my generator was. They said to ho press some button on it.
Turns out the generator is under the back of the coach underneath. You shouldn’t need access to it. If you are having an issue starting it, it is probably because you have to press the generator screen button for about 3-5 seconds. After a very hot night when the Thor after hours didn’t help me, Icalled & spoke with Kyle who said yo press it down longer. This worked. It is slow starting.
Also for those who may not know, Thor Compass doesn’t have a water heater bypass. The directions in manual say to switch this but it doesn’t have one. The manuals are inferior & deficient & sadly do not apply to the Thor Compass.
When power & air conditioning wasn’t getting from shore power to coach the Thor customer service man said that you should never have generator on when plugged into shore power. I didn’t have it on. But I asked him where in the manual Thor states this & he could not find it. He said that they use shore power OR generator power. That because they use the words or then you should know not to use both. I never turn on shore power until generator off but Thor should have manuals that apply specifically to each model with explicit instructions on this.
I’ve posted questions & what I have learned. I yearn for expertise from Thor mechanics & builders by phone to actually troubleshoot. I wish they would prioritize new owners & give them the expertise & in detail videos & manuals. I have a manual that instructs me about stabilizers & bypass switches & I don’t have them I believe on the coach. Someone said to get them anyway for the skid out. Any recommendations on that?
I had to take out wood chunks to get the door to the grey tank closed. How many more pieces could there be? What do I do if more stop me from closing the grey tank? Has this ever happened to the black tank? I don’t feel a mechanic/dealer-fixer should have to modify the coach to take these pieces out.
Thanks for your time & sharing. Any way to fix the drawers? I’m finding loose screws & parts in drawers. What to do about the bathroom doors that never closed well because of overlap if one door? The de ads let fixed it but it was only for a week. Do they take door off & recut? Is this a good idea? Is for some reason better to have one door banging on the other & a bit bigger?
Have you all had your kitchen sink unseal in a week & now it dropped?
