Annual Maintenance

That is or at least was a common fault on Samsung washers. Same thing happened to my brother. He bought a new Samsung washer and dryer and a control board went out after a few weeks. It was on back order for ever.

At some point, I am pretty sure I have had a control board or similar fail with every washer we have bought starting with my 1st Kenmore. With that said, I don't ever recall any parts being on back order, but in cases of our Samsung washers, the 1st was bought in 2010, it was replaced in 2021 because it's accompanying dryer had worn out the electronic key pads, the cost to replace was more than what we wanted and my wife wanted a washer that was front loaded. I have been waiting for leaks but nada, we have since stacked them as the control pad on the lower unit also controls the dryer up top.

But like TMC, I know Samsung is not issue free. I will also not toss shade on Kenmore, because they equally have always been great. But Sears is basically dead and the branding of names Whirlpool, Frigidaire is just confusing. But at the end of the day, my movement and love fest for Samsung is the integration of all of our Samsung SmartThings in our home. I love the one Samsung Support Number and they have all of products ready to help.

Note: We have brand new Whirlpool fridge in the garage, Frigidaire stove top, Frigidaire oven, Kenmore dishwasher, & GE Microwave; so it is not like I will only buy Samsung. I am just saying I love their products and technology integration, but when the time comes to pay, the best value will win out, all things being equal Samsung wins every time.

We have owned two front loading washers and will never go that route again. Now have a top loading Maytag and love it. Got the one with the glass top and extra large capacity so the wife can wash blankets and bedspreads.

Checked with the wife this morning. We had large extra capacity glass top Whirlpool washer / dryer that was in fact the last washer / dryer set we bought since we converted to Samsung Washer & Dryers. She reminded me that Whirlpool washer was the one that started to leak underneath the washer and it had no warranty; it was a $400 repair. Since the dryer still worked she used it, mopping the floor until the dryer had issues with the keypad. We found our 1st Samsung Washer / Dryer set for about the 1/3rd the regular price. It was some weird color because it looked black in the showroom, but was actually purple  When bringing it into the house we kind of freaked out looking at in the sun, but in the house it always looked black even with the lights on. Versus paying to have it hauled off, I remember making my son disassembled the Whirlpool washer and dryer just to test his mechanical skills. It was all spread out in the back yard

The 1st Samsung washer was a front loader so it was I first experience with it, when it came time to replace it, we bought another Samsung front loader but this time we had them stacked. Capacity wise I believe they do the same as she washes all blankets and sheets with it as well. My wife says as long as we are in this house she will always want the front loader because of space.

The irony though is that we actually had a Whirlpool top loader extra capacity washer, no warranty... par for course for me, and it failed after just a few years.

So no annual maintenance is truly ever needed, just creativity.

We just replaced our Samsung front load washer and dryer that I had won on Let's Make A Deal TV show back in 2018. The washer and dryer were delivered in early 2019 after the show aired on TV. The washer stopped working a few months ago so I called Samsung Tech. I went on a video call with him to try and figure out the issue. It was a no go so they set up a tech to come to my house to figure it out at a cost of $250. The tech arrived and after 10 minutes told me it would be cheaper to buy a brand new replacement washer than to fix my current 5 year old washer. We decided to also replace the dryer since it might be ready to also go out. We went with a top load large capacity GE Profile washer and dryer with the Alexa App. The washer communicates to the dryer to set it up for the drying cycle. It also communicates with my cell phone. Technology in appliances has come a long way.

Just trying for a little humor, Can't help but smile with this thread, with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty 'Hi-yo we went from an annual rv maintenance discussion to which washer or dryer we like to work on or trust.
Ace I know it’s not the subject of the thread

It's how conversation works.

We are not Wikipedia.
We do try to be humorous and lightfooted in intent(when allowed)partly as a defense mechanism partly as the fun it can be.

The tangents and ricochets are the very best part of this forum.

Another piece of technology spying on your daily habits, collecting data and then reporting to big brother. I think not.

My boring daily life's yadda yadda is far less valuable to them than their technology is to me.
I don't care if they listen as long as I am not specifically specified as a specific target.

I truly don't care. If it benefits me greater I weigh it as greater.
If it doesn't benefit me greater I'll weigh it as inobtrusive.
If it's not inobtrusive I'll weigh it for even distribution.
If it's not evenly distrubuted I'll weigh MYSELF against what brought me to their notice.

So far i am unconcerned on every level.

OP says...

Annual Maintenance
My 2024 Chateau 22E is approach one year. Took it to the dealer service for annual standard service, told they will charge $750 for the annual appliance services (A/C, water heater, furnace and fridge), and $150 for generator oil change. Is that normal charge? Do I have to do them? Do I have to get those services from the dealer? Thanks for your advices.

I think the consensus for OP is no you don't need to pay $750 for appliance services and in the spirit of helping... others provide recommendation on name brand appliances to minimize repairs.

If I had put up $750/yr for my new RV, I would have $3,750 now, I could buy new a A/C and a new water heater and a new furnace and a new fridge, with money left over.

A story for a firepit and a steak but here's the short version;
We self medically insured for 10 years.
Banked every month of what would have been a premium. Did an auto deduct to a seperate account. We bought a house with the money when we signed up for 'real' insurance.

I recently had to laugh about the news that the Chinese were spying on the text messages of all our phones and that we should be careful about what we said. If they can find even a tiny bit of useful information in my text messages I will be amazed. The only thing in my life I could be blackmailed for is stupidity.

Now if you are one of our many without morale's, deceitful, conniving politicians or an outright gangster and you communicate using a cellphone, then you deserve any consequence that may come your way.

Very good info. :thumb:

My view is that I am working on year 6 of cash reserves because I have never had any issue on the above. So my current allocation is $4,500 of cash reserves. Should any one of them fail, I would not hesitate to replace the failed unit.

With that said, I have said if one of my roof tops were to fail; I would replace both with the low profile units. I still have fear from threads / post years ago when driving my RV without my Garmin RV890 GPS on of hitting a bridge

Now if you live any an area that has one of the Forever Warranty Dealers and you can get RV in annually and pay the $200/yr or so fee it may be worth the service check because they automatically cover the all of the appliances

After about the 5th post you had all the info you need. Follow those guidelines and you should be good.

Totally agreed. Appreciate those info and guidelines. Also enjoy those additional informative comments that make me see other different things in the world.

Anyway to close this thread?:thumb::facepalm::nonono:

The forum should allow an OP to close a thread when the OP has sufficient information and don't need any further updates any more. The technology may have changed, the legal requirements may have evolved, the equipment may be outdated, the economics may have reformed. The closed thread can be searched as a reference, but no need to beat the horse to death again after it's already dead.

If anyone wants to chime in for a closed thread, a new thread can be established. We have a thread here for nothing. That's where it belongs.
