Annual Maintenance

The forum should allow an OP to close a thread when the OP has sufficient information and don't need any further updates any more. The technology may have changed, the legal requirements may have evolved, the equipment may be outdated, the economics may have reformed. The closed thread can be searched as a reference, but no need to beat the horse to death again after it's already dead.

If anyone wants to chime in for a closed thread, a new thread can be established. We have a thread here for nothing. That's where it belongs.

The ability to manage threads is not, nor should it be a user option/function. When the site team determines a thread no longer has value for the majority of users the we take the appropriate action for the thread.

Yeh, and a few times I will be thrown out of this forum :nonono::facepalm:. Not a good idea.

Yeah... behaving is NO fun! :D

It's a good idea to have archived information from the forum at your fingertips... a couple years from now a newbie (we were all one!) might find this thread helpful. IMO, that's a huge part of what makes this forum such a great tool!

Just throw in a political or heavily religious comment, peppered with a few nasty cusswords... POOF!!

As it should be!

I would also add that this is a great tool which has helped thousands and sometimes gets out of its lane but all in all some of us would be lost without a general consensus.

Some of the previous posts are related to "DELETE". There are differences between "DELETE" and "CLOSE".

Only the OP can CLOSE a thread. When an OP CLOSEs a thread, the thread stays there, but no one can post any comment anymore, it prevents others from hijacking it. Anyone can still search and find it.

DELETE is to remove a comment or the whole thread, nobody can find it. That should only be an administrator's function, when the thread violates the forum's rules.

I'm talking about "CLOSE", not "DELETE." I hope this forum can add that CLOSE feature.

There is no need to restart an old thread abandoned a few years ago. If anyone wants to continue the discussion in such a thread, s/he can always post a new thread and link to the original thread.

I searched the entire thread for "Delete"

I didn't see or view anyone mention or suggest that it was being requested to Delete the thread?

With that said, I do venture to say we may be drifting off topic by now; as the recent questions seem to be about forum rules? There is only one rule to my knowledge. We have no rights on a private forum, we are 100% at the disposal of those that are anointed as Administrators regardless of how we may interpret the guidelines or forum rules.

Don't forget to check your batteries periodically!!

Especially the Smoke detector batteries. It is also worth knowing for your coach if the CO detector works on alkaline batteries or the house battery. If on the house battery you will need to know if the disconnect will shut it off? In my case if I turn off my Use switch my CO detector has no power.

While we are on annual maintenance, I will throw in to check / replace that anode every year when winterizing.

Speaking of winterizing, I drained the water system the other day. For the first time in my RV lifetime, the water heater drain plug came out with no trouble. One twist with channel locks and it came out with only finger pressure. Only problem was I couldn't find my adapter and hose to blow out the excess water. Had to order a new one from Amazon. I knew I shouldn't have cleaned out my workshop last month.

I carry an adapter, and have my compressor in the RV, so I can winterize anytime, anyplace without any notice. I have second adapter in garage with my air tool fitting. I tell my wife it is best to keep the garage disorganized like it is so I can easily find stuff

Did you check your anode from water heater?

I have not winterize yet. If I make it to January, I will winterize just for the hell of it. I am dying to see how much water I get when I blow out. I also expect to go with a new anode this year.

It's hard to imagine a world with Amazoom! Need an RV winterizing fitting? Presto! Amazoom to the rescue. Out of toilet paper no problem next day delivery from Amazoom. Circuit board for the furnace Ta Da you guessed it Aamzoom! Can you imagine these youngsters of today having to mail order stuff from the Sears or Montgomery/Wards catalogue? Then wait a week to ten days and have to pick it up at the local store's catalogue desk!
Geez I am old

As a fellow senior citizen I can tell you that kind of thing happens to me often. It is usually not that I have thrown it away but that I can't find it. I need to be very careful about changing routines because the routine is what saves me. Not long ago I decided to change the location where we kept spare keys for the motorhome. The next time I needed one of the keys I could not find it. It was not lost but safely stored in the new place I moved it to that I completely forgot about.

By the way, when we had a standard RV water heater we found that one of those 4 position tire tools was perfect for removing the drain plug from the water heater. Make sure you always use a non-metallic plug. If you use a metal plug and it is not the same material as the tank it will often fuse to the tank because of electrolysis.

This puts me in mind of a correction I received years ago from a fellow worker. Seems being a hillbilly I would call a water heater a "hot water heater". He pointed out that you do not need to heat hot water only cold water.:)

I loved the days of catalogues and have been known to thumb through them for hours. I will admit that the internet is far more efficient and faster for finding something. One of the neat things about the internet is you don't even need to know the correct name of what you are looking for. You can let the search engine show you examples until you find what you need.
