Another poor hydraulic owner issue

This will be my last post since I purchased a non-Redwood today after getting my insurance check.


Met a Redwood owner suffering leveling issues, but I had to help just because they had been stuck for 4 days near Tulsa.

Prior to failure, the hydraulic slides and middle legs retracted. The front legs colapsed down to the ground with the rear legs fully extended. All the leveling system would do is click like the system had a low voltage problem.

Couldn't get a mobile RV repairer out due to schedule and the local Redwood Dealer refused to send somebody out to fix the problem because they have no mobile service.

The in-line 50 amp circuit breaker failed, so the quick fix resolution was to reposition the positive cable from the breaker to the positive terminal on the breaker. The breaker part number is 69-8501 and can be found in the thick product catalog every dealer gives away. See the attached picture for position of the faulty 50 amp circuit breaker. Breaker costs @ $7.00.

Got the legs up and the front off the ground. Very happy campers. They were headed home and will get it fixed there.

Some Redwood owners have had problems with the 50 amp breaker constantly tripping and auto-resetting when retracting legs or slide-outs. A better solution is to replace the 50 amp breaker with an 80 amp breaker per Lippert bulletin 0058. See:

Here is the part number for the 80 amp breaker ( I meant to include it before) This one has a "reset" button to disconnect the pump during RV storage. There is also an auto-resetting version for this 80 Amp breaker for about $80 :

You can mount it right above the battery on/off switch.

Couple of years ago at the Rally, had Lippert come look at an issue we were having. Very first thing they did was install the 80 Manual Reset Breaker before they even began looking into our issue.
Just an FYI: Redwood is not alone installing an undersized breaker, Montana's are having big time issues with the undersized breaker.

Good morning, thanksfor the post on the 50 amp. Is the supplied 50 amp behind the lug?

To upgrade you remove the battery side cable to the new 80 amp manual resettable breaker and connect the pump side cable.

Imo the self resetting breaker's they use are only slightly better than an unfused wire. The idiots that put mine together broke the directional relay from over tightening the dc+ nut. I'm still in the process of fixing it the right way. I'm replacing the breakers with a fused distribution box from blue sea systems.

I plan on doing a post on it once I finish. But it won't be until probably February, March time. I'm going in for back surgery in 3 weeks.



I basic over view will be 3 agm group 31's. Plus 1kw worth of solar and a gen. All the batteries will feed into the 200a Eaton fuse box and the DC feed from the solar charger controller. Then to a disconnect and the fused distribution box. The nice thing about the blue sea box is it has a dc- buss as well as 6x 30amp and 4x 150amp connection's. The Eaton box is 200amp max each x4

I will be very interested to see your arrangement, particularly how you plan to fit 3 group 31 AGM batteries into the space, plus the rest of the 12V distribution. I've not been too happy with how Redwood did that.

sloppy wiring seams to be the industry standard , price point build is the problem. Very possible the industry also has very few true craftsman available , I have worked in construction for 35 years , never has it been like this. We are going to trade schools trying to find kids who want a good job and are willing to be mentored. 90% of them think they should be paid like the owner of the company and have next to zero useable skills. unless you count smoking dope as a useable skill...…. No its still not acceptable , its like being drunk on the job!
