You'll hate that stupid latch.
I loved my hydraulic surge brakes
The wheels being mismatched probably might possibly mean a catastrophic something in its past.

Put it on level ground and measure the height at the corners.
Variance means a twiist and possibly a past wreck.

It might not tow straight.

Load and tow before buying.
Do not fail to do this TEST DRIVE.

Let me check on

I don’t see a breakaway cable for the trailer brakes attached to the towing vehicle. Just not hooked up or missing?

How much does it weigh. Between the trailer and the Crosstrek you may be exceeding your tongue weight limit. Maybe even towing limit. Have you looked hard at the numbers?

He claims he towed this & has breakaway cables

Maybe someone who trailer tows will chime in.
You'll always need a pull through.
We were at a park that flat out didn't allow trailers.
Another made you move it to a side lot.

There is no unhooking and driving the towed out of a problem like a too tight gas station.

From what little we can see You'll need a bunch of tie-downs and a jack and a spare and a spare mount.

Ramps suck when wet and are heavy no matter the weather.

Trailer theft seems to be an easy enough thing.

MAKE SURE YOUR DOORS CLEAR THOSE FENDERS OR YOU'LL BE CLIMBING IN AND OUT OF WINDOWS...THAT YOU CAN'T FULLY CLOSE...(because you'll need to crawl in and out of them).

My considerable ass is far too wide and too old to be climbing in and out of car windows...no matter the weather.

Bedroom slide?

I just saw the
'Bill of sale' thing.
Getting this titled outside of Kansas will likely be an ungodly mess.
Vin
Builder certificate
Notary
Police inspection.
Bond
New vin(potentially)

I wouldn't buy it just on the legal consequences.

Not as bad as you think. Florida does not have titles for trailers either. Usually not a problem with a bill of sale either in state or out of state as other states know Florida has no title. They may require a VIN inspection.

Just my 2 cents... nothing more.

The convenience of flat towing FAR outweighs the inconvenience and hassle of trailering a dedicated excursion vehicle.

I know many do it, but our glamping style really conflicts with that. If the vehicle were primarily used as a recreational excursion vehicle and not a primary daily driver, I would prefer trading for a suitable flat-towable one. And we've owned a Subie before... loved it!

Again... JUST an opinion and different viewpoint. 🙂

Yes we must consider the flat towing vs. Getting a vehicle. We love state parks.
Detaching a 17 foot trailer & moving somewhere & having a car on the same spot may prove a mess :)

I suggest rental first, I had the luxury of renting U haul trailers with the Auto transporter and the two wheel dollies for real world applications need to move vehicles for my daughter. While it served it's purpose as intended, I would NEVER do for a full time towed, even if given the trailer free. From what I know of you and the misses. You deserve a 4 four wheel down towed. Be patient and you will find one. I got lucky because when I bought the new Lincoln Navigator, I didn't even know it was flat towable. It is just awesome to have when I need. I don't always carry the towed. It just depends on where I am going.

My thoughts are that is you get into a tight spot and have to detach to get out of that spot, you will not be able to move the trailer. Flat towing allows you the ability to unhook the towed vehicle, move the motor home and then move the towed vehicle back to the motor home and drive off. We did do the dolly towing for one year and it did work but was not as easy and convenient as flat towing. We recently sold our towed vehicle(2014 Ford Flex) for a 2025 Dodge Durango which can also be flat towed. I just had the base plate and braking system installed on it to tow behind our motor home.
