I have a 2023 Thor Windsport with these arms on my awning. I was told to never leave the awning out because any wind will rear it off coach. Is that so? If so, any remedy?

What does your awning manual tell you?

I well say, that of the 3 different types of awning arms that I am aware of, those are the weakest.

NOTICE Awnings are designed to provide shade and protection from the sun. The effects of wind and rain on an awning are unpredictable and can cause severe damage to the awning and/or the vehicle. If wind or extended periods of rain are expected, roll up the awning.

Personally I would retract it every night before you retire. Any time you are going to be gone from the camper or if it is windy. It is a lot cheaper than replacing it. And we have seen awnings ripped off the side of the camper that were tied down. With the style you have - in my opinion - it is more of a sun shade for fair weather.

Your Carefree of Colorado Latitude patio awning may have come with a direct response control module (mine did). To test with the awning fully extended, hit the plastic motor cover on the right end twice in rapid succession. It needs good rap. If the module is there, the awning will retract fully. The module senses abnormal movement. It won't retract fast enough in a thunder storm gust, but will save you if the wind increases fairly fast. If you do not have the module, it is an easy replacement. Amazon has them. Not a perfect solution, but better than nothing.

The awning on our 2017 Windsport 35M has a sensor that auto retracts in high winds, but we retract it every night as well.
