B&W Companion Hitch

My jaws use to open as soon as I pulled the handle, the last two times I had to pull forward with the handle in the opened position for the jaws to open. Is that normal?
Also I have a lube plate, but what do you grease around the jaws and spring on the top peace of the hitch with?

It opens sone as I pull up with no problem with the arm opened, but it use to open sone as I pulled the arm. do you use a spray to lube the spring and jaws?

I had the same problem with my B&W and I too was using a lube plate. I covered the inside moving parts with grease so it's not as clean but I no longer have the problem.

I checked with a host at a Missouri State Park which has a B&W as well. He said that if you open the handle and slip the safety pin in the opened position it is impossible for the jaws to stick closed. Just pull forward and they will open. Also the company suggested a lube plate and that no other lube is needed. If any it should be a dry lube as grease attracts dirt. Seems that silicone is the lube for RVs.

With the acception of the grease on the rubber bushing in between the top and bottle parts of the hitch inside the bed of the hitch. I also put a little on the king pin to slide better on the rubber bushing inside the jaws that go around the king pin.
