Black is not always positive on DC voltage. My circuit breakers on my slides & my main feed from my convertor to my positive battery post, is white. You should always use a voltmeter or a DC test light.

What heck, why can manufactures pick a color and stick with it. You'd think that black would be negative regardless of anything else!! It can get so confusing at times that last year the business that has worked on my RV's for the past six years installed my new battery backwards.



Standard wiring colors/codes would have avoided a LOT of expense for them.

It is inexcusable for manufacturers to arbitrarily change an established wiring standard. A wire with a red insulator is no more expensive than a wire with a white insulator. Shame on anyone who would devise their own "standard." I hate to see government intrusion in private industry, but if manufacturers pull this kind of "stuff" then maybe it IS justified!!!

Keep in mind that these are semi wire like a house, and not a motor vehicle thus the other color code is used because of the manufacture home codes

They aren't making up their own rules. Using white for ground is standard for RVs. While black is usually ground for DC, it's also used for hot in AC wiring. It's easy to make a mistake and connect a hot black wire and a ground black wire when you are running AC & DC close together. Even in the marine industry, we are getting away from using black wire for DC ground and going to yellow.

On my boat the color code is the same as household wiring for the AC circuitry. However, 12Vhas been red + and black - as long as I can remember.

The red and black code is still accepted. I merely stated that we are accepting the use of yellow for DC ground and this is accepted by ABYC and the USCG for marine wiring standards.

Just because an organization or a government entity does something doesn't mean that it is logical, or for that matter, right! Changing a standard for no particular reason is unacceptable in my opinion. If you can give me one reason other than "that's the way it is" I'll back off. But, I suppose that we'll have to agree to disagree. I won't post on this subject again as I don't want to start a flame war.

What happened to green is ground the world around? AC or DC. I traced mine back and removed the converter cover, white is negative and black is positive.
