Hi, wondering how road surfaces would be, and ease of travel going from Cheyenne Wy to Gold Canyon, Az. Have a Omni Super C and pulling a 12’ trailer with smart car. Thank you.

Wondering how the interstate (I 40) going west from Albuquerque to Flagstaff is? (Potholes, traffic etc.) Also how’s road (60) from Show Low to Gold Canyon Az.? I have a Omni xg32 towing a Smart car on a flat bed trailer. Thank you.

Your questions are too elementary and too talent-dependent to answer.

The best road is subjective.
On bad roads, I find a semi-truck to follow.
Four car lengths behind the semi, I can see its trailer hit a pothole and dodge it easily, or I can sway where it sways to miss them.

That skinny road in that link was as smooth as a Walmart floor (always the best concrete pours).
You might panic.
I have a dirt road here that a rental car could do 90 mph on.
You might not like dirt.
Some people have a religious aversion to toll roads.
I sometimes open farm gates to get through.

Pick a path and take it.
Somewhere between 100 and 100,000 people used any road you pick, on any day.

Your second question:
That stretch of 40 and 60 are both in very good shape. I drive both quite often.

Must be doing something wrong.. same thing different day…not getting any replies.
You are asking very specific questions of a segment of the vast RV community that may not have read yet by anyone with knowledge of your quest. Something like road conditions or route is not a Thor specific question and may best be answered on a multi-RV platform forum like IRV2. You can use your current RVLife account info to log on there as well.

Thanks for the reply. The info you gave was the info I was looking for. The last sentence in ducksface reply was basically what I was looking for.

The road surface on Route 60 is good, however from Show Low to Gold Canyon you will be driving through the Salt River Canyon which is a white knuckle ride in my opinion. Just be prepared for a long downhill with many curves and then a long uphill! But it is an absolutely beautiful ride with several viewpoints along the way! Leave enough time to stop at the bottom rest area and walk on the old bridge to see the river.

I would suggest this; I-25 to I-40. I-40to Holbrook, south from Holbrook to Heber/Overgaard. 260 to Payson. Turn at Payson 260 to 87. 87 to Bush highway.
Bush highway to Usery Pass Rd. which changes to Ellsworth. To the 60(Superstition Freeway) drive east to Gold Canyon! A lot less harrowing than the Salt River Canyon!

Thanks Kathy. Sounds like if I leave enough time and take it slow it should be worth once in a lifetime drive.

Thanks Alan for taking the time to reply. Good info. I’ll weigh my options!

Hi Alan.. I just reviewed your excellent instructions. Thanks so much. You don’t know how much that helped me. You’re a genius. Joe

I just now went 300 miles on
i40w to 17s(ten minutes off the 17 is Sedona) to 101e to 60e.
4 to 8 lanes and downhill all the way.
Did 77mph right through the Phoenix valley.

I40 ABQ to Flagstaff is OK. In NM there are a lot of busted pavement and potholes near the far right pavement edge. In Arizona, few if any potholes in this stretch but whoop-dee-doo's from undulating pavement sections. All of the route is trucks, trucks, and more trucks. I drive this road a few times a year and hate it, mostly for the trucks.f

If it were me I'd go on US60 going to Gold Canyon. Salt River Canyon views are worth the downhill/uphill stuff.
