A couple of weeks ago, I pulled into my camping spot, set up and turned on the electric side of my hot water heater. I went outside and few minutes later my granddaughter came running out saying the motorhome was filling with smoke. The smoke was coming from the cabinet that houses the hot water tank. I turned off the hwt and removed the drawer that provides access to the hwt. After the smoke cleared I could see fire damage to the styrofoam insulation. I removed the relay box cover and saw several melted wires that had shorted out. Thank goodness we did not leave the MH, it probably would have burned to the ground. I have a 2016 Hurricane 34f with a 6 gal. electric/gas hwt. hwt3.jpeghwt2.jpeghwt1.jpeg

You're not the first to have this issue. Check the wirenuts on your Automatic Transfer Switch as well.

I'm sorry that your first post has to be about such a close call...

...But hug your granddaughter again: she probably saved your rig!

I read recently there was a recall on know bad circuit board in 2016 water heaters. Call manufacturer...they have been replacing parts and reimbursing people very well. The thread was on irv2...I'll try to find it and post the link.
