biased against Redwood

Thanks for giving us that link..And I for one am glad to hear that Carriage will be back. For years they made good units but the last few years the engineer's hands were tiedso they couldn't make changes needed to keep up with the demand of the buyers.

In the end the RV buyer will win!

I'm glad I ordered my Redwood because if they relaunch the Carriage, Thor will have a big market share of "Full Time" Rv's and the prices could go up. Some of the other brands that are holding on by the skin of their teeth might be forced out.
 
The engineers hands may have been tied from making changes but from what I haveread their quality also declined the last couple of years which also contributed to the down fall.
 
On the good news front....I did do a Google search today looking for people that have had any type of serious problems with Redwood and I couldn't find any. Now some may say that the company is still too new for problems to surface but on the other hand...when a company is new is when it makes mistakes.And they've beenproducing trailers for 2 years. I did the same search on some of the other brands and WOW! There's a lot out there.

So the worst I've heard to date is blowing fuses on the leveling system and light bulbs not lasting long. NOT BAD for a trailer the others call junk
 
I've had our Redwood out a couple of times and have not encountered any major issues. The most challenging issue to date was a wire that was not properly crimped in a connector going to the slide controller. The wire probably worked itself loose on the road. Other than that just a few other minor issues such the 10 amp fuse, two screw heads broken off the ladder bracket, light caulking around shower,a small hole in a window screen and one loose bulb. Over-all not bad at all for a house on wheels that you can pull down the road at 55-60 mph.

Thanks for the information! I'm glad you're happy with your Redwwod, ina little more thana month hopfully I can join the group of Redwood owners too.
 
We have been in our Redwood for over a year with only a few problems. I have some friends that have new fifth wheels (not redwood) and have them in the shop more than on the road. So far we have not had to take it back to the dealer. My Redwood rep gave us great service in fixing the problems we did have.

Well, I made the big change today..I called the dealer and told them to upgrade my axles to the 8ooolbs. I guess now this summer I'll upgrade the springs to make it ride better while riding on the stiffer axles.
I was thinking about putting the kilderman system on my truck to make it ride better to keep the wife happy. I guess we'll add it to the list of upgrades.
 
If anyone has a 2011 or newer Ford, what type of MPG are you getting while pulling a 5er with the diesel. I've never pulled a 5er with this diesel.
 
The typicial mileage with any of the newer Big Three is between 9 to 12, depending on driving style, road conditions, and weather. Right now we average between 10 & 11
 
Dave, we are pulling with a 2011 f350 diesel DRW but have not pulled it far enough to get a read on mpg. I'm hoping for that 10 to 12 mpg rate.We've only towed the new 5r about 30 miles.
 
Right now I have a 2011 f350 crew cab 4x4 lariet with single rear wheels. I have a large tall (11 ft)cargo trailer I use in my business. With it loaded with 10,000 lbs rolling down the road at 70 miles an hour I average about 10.5-12 depending on the wind, and about 16.5-18.5 solo depending on the wind.

I'm wanting to chip this truck out and I've had several peoplke tell me that I could get as high as 14-15 towing and 22-24 solo with this work done(if I keep my foot out of it). This would pump up the truck to 950 ft pounds of torque on the high setting or I can tune it to the economy setting when solo.

I was wondering what everybody was getting since I haven't towed a 13ft trailer with mine yet, I wanted to know what a stock truck did.
 
Dave if you chip your truck you will void the warantee, ford has set up the ecm to keep track of all changes in fuel pressures map senser readings timing changes and so on and it stays in the ecm for the life of the truck. I was going to do the same but when I found this out I decided to wait. My company sells a lot of after market products for the big three and the guys that are seeing improved mileage around here are doing the exuast delete intake change and a good programor on average they see a decent fuel mileage increase driving solo but not much of an increase pulling.
 
Pulling both an all aluminum Elite 3 Horse trailer with living quarters (41') at 16,000 GVW and a Redwood 36FB 2012 at 12,500 GVW with a 2011 Ford 4506.7 diesel 4x4 Lariat. Getting between 10 - 11 mpg at 60 - 65 mph on long hauls (Texas to Tennessee to Florida back to Texas). That 4,500 lbdifference in GVW doesn't seem to effect the mpg on the Ford. The F450 doesn't even know those trailers are back there. Thempg without the trailer is closer to 14 - 15.I suspect our mpg would improve if we had a 2x4 and no dual rearend.
