Busted skylight!!!!!!

Camping at Hatteras NC for the month. This past weekend we notice our skylight over our bathroom was busted. I had seen two boys across the canal behind our 5er throwing rocks in the canal. Sunday around 4 PM we noticed the skylight and I had found a rock beside our camper on Saturday. Busted a hole the size of two hands in the center. I purchased Gorilla waterproof tape. Reminds me of the Eternabond tape. Taped the hole from the outside and also from the inside just to give it more support. Sooooo, ordered a new skylight and now I have a new project before spring. Yea Me! Couldn’t prove the kids did it and they were gone by the time we noticed it. The manager at the campground said the two boys had also done some damage to the playground pirate’s ship. They had told the family to leave and they wouldn’t be allowed to return. I know it was them but I just can’t prove it. And my wife now understands why I get so anal about kids being around our camper. Just wish I had been there when they did it. We’d had a come to Jesus meeting for sure.

We carry a roll of both the Gorilla tape and the Eternabond tape. Ya never know.

Those skylights are made out of fairly thin material and become brittle over time.
It's a good idea to check those, since you may not notice that you have a problem until it's too late!
The last one I replaced, I used a lexan aftermarket skylight that is heavy duty and strong enough to stand on! I won't ever worry about that one breaking. I probably should change out the other one as well!

I store my 5er indoors. But still I know what you mean. Of course mean bratty kids with rocks don’t help much either. Lol

I store mine inside, too, (never have to winterize it!) but it gets a lot of outside use over the summer. Point is, those skylights are paper thin, which you likely noticed, and are prone to failure after a few years. I tried eternabond as a patch while waiting on my new Lexan skylight to arrive, but that didnt work well so I taped a piece of a HD garbage bag over it as a temporary seal which worked until I got home to do the repair properly.

Depending on size, shape, and style, I've seen prices from $60. some to up over $250.

I needed one for my ZT260. Dealer was ridiculous in price. I found one at IconDirect way cheaper. It was 1/2” bigger all around and was thicker than the original. I found them on the internet and realized they were only an hour away from me. They also have RV fenders.

I got the fenders. Really sturdy and 10x better than OEM.

The waterproof gorilla tape worked well for me so I could finish up my month trip at the beach. We had some hard rain after the patch and the hole was the size of both my hands. Purchased a Premium Heavy Duty RV Camper Trailer Skylight. 70 MPH on the way home. Gorilla tape still holding and sealed. Will have to wait for warmer weather to replace the skylight. In the 30’s now and deer season in full swing. Lol

Well finally got the damaged skylight replaced just in time for our April beach trip. Leaving the 30th of this month and returning on April 30th.
