There was a cabinet below the counter that was wasted space. When we looked at doing something with it, we first were going to put shelves in it but DW has knee problems that make it difficult to get down to dig anything off the shelves. Even though it meant less storage, we opted for a couple of drawers instead. I made two stout boxes that went nearly the full depth of the cabinet and mounted them on slide rails.

<DIV align=center>The drawers can come out bit further but both the kitchen and dinette slides are fully retracted, so the drawers couldn't be pulled fully out.

Good job. We did the same thing in our pantry in 28RL. Added a clasp at front of drawers to stop them from coming out while in transit if the door opened expectantly.

Yes is the simple answer and the reason for that was that I don't have a shop to do carpentry work. I went to Home Depot bought pine boards of the required widths and had them cut the boards to length. I bought the longest drawer glides available and I had to build a framework to mount them. I have pictures of the framework but I never posted them.

I would like to see the frame work. I just got mine out of storage today and wouldlike to get the drawers built before Wednesday.

It's going to be a couple of more weeks before our 5vr comes out of the storage lot.

The installation of the drawers was relatively easy but there were a few rough spots. First I had to remove all the existing drawers so that I'd have some room to work, which wasn't much. I basically copied the framing method for the existing drawers. In the first picture, you'll see the vertical supports for the back of the slide rails. I bought the longest rail available and think that they were 27" long. The drawer boxes are same length as the rails. In order to mount the vertical supports, I screwed a length of 1x2 into the floor and screwed the verticals to it. For the top of the vertical support I screwed a 1x2 shim into the under part of the counter.(see picture 2) This was the hardest part of the project, because of the contorted position I had to get into in order to screw the shims and screw the vertical supports to the shims. Measurement from the front of the cabinet is important but the rail support at the rear gives you a little room for error but not much. Picture 3 shows the completed installation. I deliberately made the front of the drawer boxes lower than the other three side so that we'd have hand room to pull them open because I did not intend to put handles on the drawers.

Thanks for the pictures. Makes the process a lot clearer. I think I may even be able to handle that.
