How can I close a thread as the original owner when I've already got all the information and don't want to be bother with it any more? Thanks for the advice.

Just as you have perused past threads, others will peruse, and find yours, and may have a question.
A couple of months ago a 5 year old post was revived by a newb here.
Due to the revival, I purchased, through a 5 year old link, $65 windshield wipers for $11.

There is no reason to casually close an old post.
They are community property.
Someone, two years from now may need to ask you(or any contributors) about your/their west coast trip and if you were attacked in a state park, so they can know if their attack was not normal course.

The quartzite thread from last year was recently active again.

Go to "User CP" top left on main screen, click on 'list subscriptions' Lower left toolbar), find in upper window which subscritions are active, and unsubscribe is all I do when I am done with the topic. Otherwise the emails don't stop when people post or reply to it.

Others can still see and benefit from old posts.

Unless there is something blatantly wrong with a thread or a violation of rules it remains open.
