Considering RV Life Pro GPS

My version of sygic will display and call out the speed limit on any road under any overpass I cross.
It happens so fast and goes away so fast as i cross that it won't sound a speed alarm.
Sygic also gives you your actual speed.

Today I used the RV GPS Apps to navigate to my office as it was the current destination. It did not show my actual speed the entire trip. It did show me the Speed Limit, at one point I was on a Service road with actual constructions and cones, the Apps said speed limit was 65mph but the signs said 35mph. I don't think the Police will give me a break if I say I was going by my RV GPS Apps? (note: I was not in RV but my SUV)

This morning while going to work I keyed in my work address in the RV GPS App. I was given two routes by the RV GPS App. Both were routes that I have never taken in my life to work!!!. It is only a 15 minute drive, and I have been working at that location 17 years. So I decided to drive my normal route despite the recommended route being 8:43AM for arrival. I arrived at 8:38AM using my normal route. So why was it wanting to take me on a odd route that was 5 minutes longer? or worse the 2nd option was even worse as was 12 min longer :confusedgif:

On the way home, it had the correct route I would normally take, but at a light 1 mile from home, it would have had me make a right turn off course and make some weird loop. Because I knew where I was going I was able to ignore. Not ready for Primetime when on the road in some foreign place.

Yesterday I took the MH to get some gas a few miles away at a Mobile station. Just for grins I entered it it the RVLife GPS. It gave me the choice of two routes, neither shorter, neither faster, than the correct route in green which has no RV/Truck restrictions or issues.

But this was one of many issues that my Garmin RV GPS used to do as well and one reason it is no longer in the RV.

But this was one of many issues that my Garmin RV GPS used to do as well and one reason it is no longer in the RV.

My Garmin is not so easy to use for a short trip that is for sure. It is a nice decorative screen on my dash, cheap form of self esteem feeling important while I drive with all of the controls. Others are afraid to ask. If they do, I will let them use my Garmin or the RV GPS App so when they get lost and I can blamed them :fishing:

One day coming home from work, I may follow the RV GPS App to see where it will take me? I mean I was only 1 mile and 1 turn away from home and it suddenly wanted me to make a hard right, then there was another right, so I figured it may have been getting me to make a block?

But a Navigation system that does not show your actual speed limit is perplexing to me.

That wide and short monitor you guys have,
Post a link please.
Does it have a video input?
I have an older low resolution one I want to use to erase the blind spot the A pillar makes but I think I'd rather have yours.

If I follow your question this is what I have. It does have a port for rear camera and you can stream or mirror to it. It has a Aux port. It is actually on sale now.

I like the low profile as it does not obstruct my view. It also has a Dash cam, so I have two cameras going now when I drive.

I may need a new thread, because I have been l been looking at that Hikity 2+64G Double Din Android 13 Carplay Stereo Wireless Carplay Android Auto, 10.1 Inch Android Car Stereo Touch Screen Bluetooth FM Radio GPS Navigation WiFi HiFi IPS Display + Backup Camera you showed us. I don't want to lose my Remote Steering control and I worry about it being true plug and play with all of the jacks for my Pioneer radio? I may by a another xBay for the old Navigator.

They have dropped the price again on limited time offer so I just bought my 3rd unit. This one will go in the old SUV and I am going to try to hook up the rear camera? Running the wire from the back license plate and tapping into the reverse circuitry may be over my pay grade though? I may have to go to Car Toys or similar?

Last night I decided to use the RV GPS App in new Navigator using Android Auto for the first time going out to a simple dinner.

It gave me directions without issues, but I have a few more relevant notes.

I was able to see my actual speed while driving for the first time. It appears to only show actual speed driving when you are exceeding speed limit? And even stranger it seems to show the speed limit when going under a bridge? (The Duck had mentioned this before but my first time noticing).

My RV GPS seems to have two alerts for speeding? One for when you speed it turns Orange and shows actual speed and the other when you go 10mph over speed limit that loud alarm goes off. No way to turn the loud alarm down, the Speed Alert must be ON or OFF

Also, I did notice you can interact with RV GPS similar to Waze by advising of Road Conditions ( not police alerts and other things from Waze) With that said, I have yet to see any kind of alert. I plan to find a large pothole somewhere and then flag it to see if it will warn me later.

As promised I setup a "trip" to my MIL'S house in Trip Wizard. As far as I can tell, there is no way to tell the GPS to start the trip. You can only tell it to navigate to individual way points in the trip.
Can anybody educate me on this?

When I first set up this trip I didn't know for sure what day we would be leaving so the Trip Wizard said "We'll just use today's date. You can always change it later." So it set it for April 29. When I first tried to load the trip it had it in "Past Trips" so I thought maybe that was the issue.

So I opened the APP on my phone, went to Trips, clicked the EDIT icon to change the trip date, and it opens a browser window for me to sign into the RV Life Trip Wizard website where I could edit the trip. So you can't edit (and maybe not even CREATE, a trip in the APP (nor the Android Auto interface). More to come.

I just tried and I was able to edit. May be other ways but this is what I did.

I found my infamously planned trip where it kept making me go in circles because I had planned to go to a Buc ees but I didn't really want to stop there. At the time, you had to go into the Panning Wizard.

I first made a copy of that old trip and renamed it. Yes I had to Login again. I opened the new copy of trip and then clicked the Edit Pencil, then opened the trip again  and had to select from a list of past trips one more time, then select open trip again  At that point I saw a wrench next to the name of the trip in Red bar. Of course I clicked it too. Then you get a screen called Trip Tools. You have to scroll up on the phone because it may be hidden but you will see Trip Management. I only wanted to delete on waypoint, but the only option available was to "Delete Multiple Stops" So I clicked it. It allows you to select a single or multiple stops if you of course Click it them. Then Click again where it says Delete Selected. My Buc ees stop is gone. I can do the same with the original trip but I did not want to delete that infamous loop.

With that said despite my revised trip being Active, I could not Navigate to it. :banghead: That is such a major miss that there must be away? I think it is bug and not reading the Trip's active status correctly to allow the Start Navigation to show?

That's what I thought. I know you USED TO BE ABLE to navigate a trip, but I couldn't figure out how to. I thought I was being stupid and missing something obvious. But apparently not.
Even after editing the trip to today's date, I could nor navigate the trip. I could select any waypoint in the trip and navigate straight to that waypoint, but that was it.

So I selected the last stop and went on my way. We stopped about halfway at a grocery store to ick up some essentials and eat lunch. When we resumed the trip about 45 minutes later without having turned off the RV engine or any navigation equipment I noticed that the RVLife GPS had given up on navigating the route. It no longer had a destination. It must have gotten confused trying to recalculate the route as I drove through the parking lot. So I selected the last stop on my planned trip and continued on.

I was able to confirm DKOLdman's report on the "Speed Warning" behavior. Once I turmed it on and got back to the map it showed your actual speed in a box next to the speed limit box ONCE YOU EXCEEDED the speed limit, but that's the only time. And the annoying alarm does not kick in until 10 over the speed limit, but does not shut up as long as it thinks you are 10 over the speed limit.

This inability to navigate a planned trip really pushes the RVLife APP down the list. Every other GPS device/APP I have used has this ability. Many have the ability to rearrange waypoints in the route and even reverse the route. It appears somebody decided the fix to the problem where it never moved on to the next waypoint after passing close by, but not to, a previous waypoint, was to eliminate multipl waypoint navigation. SMH.

Okay so we're going to a state park about three hours away. Leaving Sunday, Google Maps gives 2 routes... neither are ones I want to take. Of course Google's only considerations are time and distance.... quickest or shortest distance.

I know these roads pretty well. I'm going to try setting up a trip using Trip Wizard and see how difficult the whole process is. I don't use Carplay or Android Auto. I'm going to try using three devices as a reference ... a repurposed Android phone running Google Maps, a Garmin and then use the RV Life app on my phone.

Any suggestions? I'll give an update next week on the results.

It will allow for an in depth trip to the destination
And
test their simplest possible use upon return.

Let's see who fails in every level of user usage.

So, a “three hour tour” like Gilligan and the Skipper. But with three gps options. You’ve got this! 😃

We'll see... I still have the kitchen area torn apart installing a tankless RO unit under the sink. I work more efficiently with a tight deadline. 😂

I was able to enter a trip with multiple stops and also make changes with the way points without any issues and without using the RV planning wizard. The only problem. I am not able to save the trip as far as I know. It still bothers me that you cannot enter a home location or a work location or save an address that is special of some sort with a name. It is as if the RV GPS app is only focused or intended to get you to an RV campsite or park.
