Just a reminder for those who might be near cottonwood trees. Look at your rooftop A/Cs. The Cotton clogs up the A/C condenser. I have done this before but I am always looking for a better way. First I used a handheld Dyson. No Joy, got clogged in no time. So I pulled off most of the cotton by hand as it came off in sheets. Then used the water hose being careful not to splash the inards any more than necessary .

Buy some screen material and line the cover openings.

Are you referring the the vertical opening at the rear of the cover?

I would not add screen to those openings. Typical window screens cut airflow 50% or more when airflow is above static pressure e.g. the fan pulling air over the coils.

Use something like chicken wire. About 1/4 hole squares. It won't stop air flow but it will stop the big chunks of cottonwood, leaves, etc. Cut a strip bend it a little in a radius and hot glue it in place.
I did this on our last SOB with Dometic Aircell AC's and it worked great.
