Finally got around to checking out the dead awning motor. The whole thing was pretty simple. Use caution with the awning roller though.

Moved it out about 12 inches with the cordless drill and socket. Removed the outer casing, there are 6 Phillips screws holding the face on, then 2 more holding the back on. Care fully pulled the power cord up out of the awning arm, disconnected it and put the meter on it. Registered 12V when the switch is activated on the panel. Got a pic for warranty. I put a bungee cord around each arm to keep it from rolling out.

There are 3 bolts holding the motor to the awning arm. I am glad I was holding the roller with one hand when I took the motor off. The arms didn't move, but the awning on the roller would have just spun until all the fabric was flapping on the side of the camper. Not sure what would have happened if it went all the way, but would have needed another ladder and someone to help roll it back up.

I couldn't find a way to keep the roller from unrolling without jamming something in the gears. I ended up putting the motor back on. I found a replacement on Amazon for $140. I was going to take the non-functioning one out and take to CW to for warranty claim. Figured it would be easier if they had part in hand because they couldn't order a replacement toilet seat without 10 pictures of labels and serial numbers. I'm going to replace the one I have with the new one from Amazon and take the dead one to CW for warranty replacement. Since it died in less than a year, I figure it won't hurt to have an extra on hand for $140. I even took a picture of the volt meter to show them I have power going to the motor. Either way, I'm sure it will be a battle.[/ATTACH]
