My door strut broke this weekend when my daughter opened the door when a wing gust came through. I have found new struts online, but have no idea what the poundage for a door strut is. Please help!

I took my door strut off after the first trip . just use the plastic locks that keep door open all the way. Just looked at the strut and cannot help on the # as that part of the info is worn off.

Frequently, those RVs with door struts have something blocking the door so you can't fully open it and use the conventional locking system. Frequently, there is an awning support or something similar in the way.

I have seen people install the longer holders (six inches or longer) which MIGHT work.

As to the question about the strut, most of the ones I've seen on CR products are only about 80 pounds. Maybe a 120 pounds would be better. I've also seen folks add metal lanyards/cables to their doors to restrict how far they can open and to protect the strut from gusty wind situations.

If it has any #s on, take it to your favorite auto parts store & they can cross reference it & may have one in stock.

What a nightmare it was finding a replacement. I learned all kinds of new things about gas struts though like how to convert newtons to LBS. Was unable to find any struts at the dealership i bought the trailer or local shops. It was almost impossible to find a 20 inch strut with only 11.24 LBS of compression. Luckily i found some on ebay so i bought two to have one as a back up. Also FYI that Stabilus company that makes the struts is a German company and impossible to talk to a representative from the US.

Luckily our daughter let go of the door when the wind caught it. If not it would have pulled her out of the door. With a 7 year old girl she would have blamed the trailer, and would hate it past that point. The joys of raising three young girls.
