Dual Batteries or Heavy duty Alternator

I am looking at purchasing a 2012 Ford F350 Lariat Crew cab, 4x2 DRW. 6.7L Power stroke 4V Diesel V8 engine, TorqShift 6-speed Auto. Not to sure which is better option, dual batteries or heavy duty alternator?Any Information would be greatly appreciated.

I think all diesel's have two batts as standard equipment and the alternator on the dieselhasa higher out put rating.

you might want to check but I've never seen a diesel ford that didn't come with dual batteries standard

The 6.7 power stroke comes with dual batteries and a high out put alternator if you think you need more charging power get the plow upgrade option it will give you an even higher out put alternator. I believe ford also has a dual altenator option as well. Unless you have some serious power consuming add one on your truck the stock set up is more than sufficient.

Thats what I thought. But we were looking around the Ford site and went to the build your truck and clicked the heavy duty alt, it took off the dual batteries. It would not give both options. Now I'm confused.

Well now I'm not confused, Now I feel stupid. went back to the site to look at it and it was dual "Alt" you could not do, not batteries.The main reason we were concerned was, last year we had our alternator die on us on uor trip to Tenn. We barely made it to our site with no lights. so we are alittle gun shy. sorry about the confusion. I will try to be better educated before I post next time. thanks for responding so quick. If your going to spec a F350 out, there are 2 options I have that I JUST LOVE!
#1 auxiliary heat...the truck starts pumping out heat with a cold engine

#2 up fitter switches

For the record the 6.7 kicks @#s

You said it Dave! The auxiliary heat is very nice when its cold, and if you have accessories that need switches the up lifter switch option is nice as well. I use them for my plow,led lighting, and auxiliary rear lighting.

Yes I talked my wife into the upfitter switches. when we go fulltime in 2years (crossing fingers) we will spend more time in the truck then we do now, so we will want to be as comfortable as we can. so I said why not go crazy.

If you get a truck without them simply go to ebay and for about $125 you can buy them with the wiring harness that just plugs into a factory plug. I use one of my switches for my extra fuel tank in the bed.
