Have a 2022 Omni xg32 and after staying at a resort for 30 days the steps quit working. Everything checks out good. They worked fine before we got there. I’ve tried the inside step switch in different configurations. Contacts seem okay. Replaced motor recently. Battery charged good. Any help is appreciated.

I’m not much educated on electrical, but I’ll do some searching on fuses and/or breakers. Thank you.

Many motorhome electric steps have an ignition on wire that senses if the ignition is on. If the ignition is on the steps will not work. I have seen times when one needed to wiggle the ignition switch to make the steps work when the engine is off.

Trouble Shooting Stairs

I have the same year and Model.
It is helpful to be specific with the Not working:

Motor Off ignition off key out,

When you hit the stair switch do you hear the motor or not:
Motor noise, no movement the issue is mechanical, On mine they forgot the cotter pin that retains the pin that connects the Actuator arm to the Step. Pin fell out, step limp manually moveable.

When you hit the switch if you don't hear motor noise the issue is probably electrical. My step wiring was a modern art obscene tangle of insulated copper spaghetti just waiting for something laying in the road to rip it free. You might just have something that was disconnected .

BE CAREFUL AS THE STEP MAY START AS YOU DEBUG AND THERE ARE FINGER SEVERING AREAS IN THE MECHANISM.

Lippert Kwickee steps are not like that. The "ignition on" sense overrides the "disable door" switch to retract the steps if the door is closed and extend the steps if the door is open. Without the ignition on the "disable door" switch allows the steps to remain deployed when the door is closed.

The link I posted above is the Lippert complete testing procedure to assist in troubleshooting these steps.

Number one problem with stairs is always the ground connection. And then making sure the ground connection connects to the rest of the steel of the coach. Have Rewired several over the last couple of years and installation seems always poor. On one the factory attached the ground to the covering of the stairs which looks to be aluminum but is foil covered and barely touching any thing. Bump down the road caused failure. Nice Dry Yachtie.

I recently had intermittent failure like that but noticed that it occurred more often in humid weather or rain. I had replaced the motor previously. After some investigation I surmised it must be the controller. I replaced it this weekend, and everything is working fine. Around $70 off of Amazon. Easy to do.

They run off the chassis battery, or at least it does on mine. Is your isolator switch locking out the chassis, or it won't work either if voltage is too low (battery drained).

Who replaced the motor?
Why did they say the motor had failed, is it possible some other root cause affecting the motor?

Troubleshooting steps is mostly electrical, you may wish to use another repair technician or mobile RV service. But if you call Kwikee direct they will try to help you troubleshoot.

When you say not working that could be anything for us. There are lots of things that it could be know what it will do and won't do is helpful for others to even try to help.

Electric Step Malfunctions

The automatic steps are probably the most unreliable of appliances on RVs. The are a crude design with all the wires and bearings and other critical components exposed to the elements and to water and mud splattering from the front wheels. Their frames rust and they can fail in the out position requiring you to climb under then to unbolt the mechanism to tie the back.

And it seems that the design has hardly been improved since I bought my first Class A in 2005. It also seems I have to get them fixed several times a year. I have yet to try to fix them on my own. You have to be careful since you can easily get injured if one closes on your hand. Sometimes the shops just find just a bad connection, but my last repair required a new motor. I carry a folding plastic step in one of my hatches whenever I travel since the automatic steps love to fail just as you start on vacation and you could ruin the vacation if you waited for a shop or mobile repair to fix them.
