lots of knocking especially going up hills. I can't tell if it is timing, cheap gas, fule injectors, or valve/rocker arms

We left Louisville for Tampa on Monday. I usually stop at Love's and get 87 octane. I put about 1/4 tank of 89 in it at one point but that didn;t seem to help.

After driving 500 or 600 miles it started surging when slowly taking off from a stop. If I accelerated a little hard it stopped but the knock was there :(

it's got almost 50k on. I had the oil changed about 4k miles ago. It has had the knock since I got it in October.

It has not thrown any codes and when I do a live capture with my OBD reader it doesn't show any errors

Any ideas from your mechanics out there??

Is it a "knock" or a "PING" ? Cheap gas under load will cause a ping which can be cured by backing off the timing....howver, that's an old school method in an engine with a distributor. To back off timing in these motors, you'd probably need a scanner to adjust.

Not sure about the surging but I had a tapping sound that was a warped exhaust manifold in our 2015 ACE. The shop I use was able to remove the manifold (didn't break any bolts!) and have it machined flat. Edited to add: the noise was loudest on cold start and climbing hills.

A couple of times our prior MH (2004 Class C with V10) would randomly lose power. It felt like a tank of bad gas but it started a few hundred miles after filling up so I ruled that out. There was no CEL or stored codes. Of course it wouldn't do it for the shop. As a guess they changed the fuel filter and it didn't happen again. So, perhaps try that - can't hurt, might help.

Put a bottle of injector cleaner or catalytic converter cleaner in it.
Some say it doesn't work.
I can only say it works wonders for me.
Spend $6 to $20 to prove me wrong.

Thanks, ducksface

The fuel injector cleaner was my next step. I've never heard of catalytic converter cleaner. I assume I can get the latter at the usual parts places

it's a knocking, rattling noise. That's why I said valves/rockers or maybe even piston slap. I sure as **** hope none of those

I hadn't heard of cat cleaner until two weeks ago.
A single bottle and 50miles of travel brought back my zr2 to like new.

Amazon or any parts chain store will have it.
The bars leak brand had a $10 rebate.
The rebate went smoothly after 20minutes of typing.

Be careful when getting it diagnosed at a shop if the bottled stuff doesn't work. The cam problem sets off the parts cannon like you wouldn't believe.

It sounds like a consumables problem so far.
Coil, crank sensor, reflash, maybe just a vacuum leak.
This may even be a reason to buy the five star tuner(recommended for the five speed not the six speed)

Don't put too much worry into this until the easy fixes don't work.
And
This is not the place to ask.
Find the ford v10 forum and read what others have experienced.

i think this may be the 6 speed. Where would I find that info??

Does anyone know of a reliable service place in the Tampa area?

Even burning top tier fuel the name brands of additives, such as Lucas, are well worth the money. Even Cummins came around and have recommended Power products for years. Kind of like medicine, a little usually goes a long way. If you burn bargain gasoline, they are required additives to maintain optimum fuel burn conditions.

By chance you didn’t put e-85 fuel in, I know some stations have several fuels with 1 hose, that would definitely cause all those issues.
