engine knock

My brother's V10 had a similar issue. While we were looking for the source of the ticking we found two broken exhaust manifold studs.
After we diagnosed the problem, we decided the job was too big for two old guys. He had a shop do the work. Getting work done on a motorhome is a crap shoot in many areas. Fortunately, we have a fleet service truck repair shop in our area that will work on motorhomes. Though you do pay for the privilege. I think they charged him $1500 to pull the manifold, plane it, remove & replace the broken studs.

Edit: The shop foreman told my brother he has seen several of the V10's with broken exhaust manifold studs. Seems to be a fairly common issue.

Edit 2: Just talked to my brother they planed the warped manifold and replaced ALL the studs with stainless steel on both exhaust manifolds for that $1500. Still pricey but more inline with the work done

When I started it up this morning it threw some codes but I haven't checked them yet. It idled very roughly until it was warmed up.

i put in some rislone. Didn't seem to help much. The tank was about 1/4 full. Drove about 40 mils then filled up with 89 octane. It's a little better.

I guess I'll have to take it somewhere and have it checked out when I get it home next week

P0300:00-AC random misfire detected
P0316:00-6C misfire detected on startup first 1000 revolutions

But you knew that already. Now the question is "why". Maybe a bad/clogged startup enrichment injector or something in the neighborhood that replace the choke.

Or a bad engine temperature sensor.

Put a bottle of injector cleaner or catalytic converter cleaner in it.
Some say it doesn't work.
I can only say it works wonders for me.
Spend $6 to $20 to prove me wrong.
Yes. Once a month on a full tank we have used. injector cleaner

If the noise is still there after you fix the codes then get the pulley as in this video

This fixed my pinging noise.
There is a thread on this forum about this I will see if I can find it and post it

This is the thread:

Ford V10 squeaking noise at steady throttle

Just got back from Tampa. Here's what I've found
1. Cruise control downshifts way too much going up hills and that when the knocking/rattling is the worst
2. turning off cruise control and use the gas pedal keeps it from dropping into 3rd and really reduces the knocking
2. It doesn't really like to constantly run at much over 70
3. I've been running Love's 87 octane. On the way back I stopped at a Marathon and use 89. The knocking and surging was reduced quite a bit
4. I filled up later with Love's 89 and it was not as good as the Marathon. The last fillup was 89 Chevron and was about the same as the Marathon 87
5. Keeping it about 68-72 seems to be the sweet spot

On Wednesday morning after driving from Spring Hill, Fl to Pratville, Al the engine had a very hard time getting a good idle. I gave it gas and it just sputtered, but never died. It finally wound up to about 1500 rpm and was ok.
Now that I'm home I'm going to find a mechanic to figure it our and see what it is going to take to getting it fixed. It also needs an oil change (about 6k miles) 2 new tires on the front (the right front in almost bald on the inside), another alignment and have the brakes checked.

I can't decide whether to put a Safe-T Plus or Roadmaster steering stabilizer on it myself or pay someone. It has one but I can't tell make/ model. It looks like it is factory.
Also contemplating the Helwig sway bar upgrade.

The wind on the way to Tampa last week was awful and I was getting blown all over the place. We left a day early to miss the severe weather still caught the wind all the way down

We are headed to Boise, Id the end of April so I need to all running smoothly.

On the E350/450 chassis you have a stock steering damper - basically a steering shock absorber.
