External propane hook-up port

I'm replacing the external propane hook-up port on my Thor Axis 25.6 2018. I've removed all the screws which frees up the box to pull out. But I have to disconnect the LPG feed hose so I can connect it to the new port. Can I shut off the gas from the main propane tank and then proceed with the disconnection? Fooling with LPG is scary business and I've never messed with propane connectors. Any advice is welcome, including telling me to have it done at the dealer.

Thanks,

Dale Wilkins

Just remember that if you are changing the quick connect, propane quick connects are a different size that quick connects for air compressors.

If it were me, I would install a globe type shut off valve prior to the quick disconnect as an added safety.

A million tanks a day are bled into thin air either before filling or as a popoff upon filling.

We've all seen it, we've all stood right there as it's being done.

It's been this way since before any of us were born.

Caution is a fine thing.
Fear...not so much.
Bleed the line start and finish because it makes sense to do so.

Air borne propane has to be between 2 and 10% of volume to ignite.
It's a hard percentage to hit AND have a viable ignition source nearby enough to be in that exact mixture.

Gas valves are typically ball valves.
