Hi all. 2018 Thor Quantum RQ29. The kitchen fan is a fan-tastic vent. On a recent trip it worked fine with the remote (I heard people mention a permanent mounted controller but I can't find one). The other day, I went to turn on the fan using the remote and nothing. The lid didn't open; the fan didn't come on; etc. I changed the 4 amp fuse but still can't get it to turn on. I opened the lid and went on the roof. I pushed down on the plunger 4 or 5 times. It seems to have resistance and popped right back up. I also sprayed some silicone on it. The remote lights seem to work for manual and auto.

I am still not getting any reaction between the remote and the fan?

Any suggestions?

Thanks. R.J.

Need to isolate the problem... fan problem or remote control problem.

Is there an on/off switch on the fan itself? Is it the little knob in your pic?

Is your battery disconnect switch ON?

Let's get your fan working, then tackle the remote. 😊

Is there 12 VDC to the fan?

The fan control boards have also been known to go bad.

Ok. I’m not sure why but here is what I did. The shore power was plugged in so disconnect switch was on and inverter was on. I unplugged the shore and turned off the inverter. I then plugged back in the shore power and turned on the inverter.

Now it is working. What did I do right?

Also, there is no on off switch. The black circle is the 4 amp fuse and the black knob is to manually open the lid.

plugging into SP does not turn on the disconnect switch. The indicating light will be ON showing the CONVERTER is supplying 12 VDC to the house DC buss - which is all you need to run that fan. But if you don't turn the Main Power switch ON, the house batteries will not charge.

The INVERTER would have nothing to do with the operation of the fan.

Weird. Did all other 12v appliances, lights etc. work when the fan wouldn't? If it happens again, check other 12v items.

On my older 5th wheel that fan had a temperature switch so when it got to the set temp the fan would turn on any chance yours works that way.

This one has that auto feature and rain alert also. It just wouldn’t turn on. It’s working now after some always great advice from Ted and Chateau Nomad

Hi all. Well I finally figured out why my Fantastic Vent would only work some times. The answer is that I had to have my interior lights turned on. I'm not sure why the 12VDC would be powered through the light switch by the entry door, but it is.

Thanks again everyone.

Did you buy the RV new? If not it may have been a PO mod and just went for the easy power. I can't imagine it would be wired that way from the factory, My ACE certainly is not (nor any other RV i have owned).

I bought it used. My Max Air in the bedroom works without the light on. I’m just happy that I figured it out.

It just means that they took power after light switch not before should be a easy fix
Doubtful. They just grabbed the closest light power run in the ceiling. There's probably no unswitched power anywhere near it.

Thanks Ted. I thought that I would at least check down at the switch, but I would bet that you are correct.
