it's a pain to change because the access door is at the back of the basement, you have to take nearly everything out and such a small opening to be changing monthly... we are living in it in PA, the well water is high in sulfur.

Agree it's a PIA to remove all the stuff in the garage to get to the access door! I've been thinking of getting one of these or something similar. It's just the cost that is keeping me away.

You can do it for less money than that. I purchased the same water softener ($350.00) and an inline filter ($24.00) seperately. I change the inline filter after approx. every 4 to 5 months of use. You really don't need the fancy framework.

The water filter is an absolute pain in the butt. A great example of how the guys designing these things obviously never use them. I finally took down the wall to break the filter open and removed the cartridge without replacing it. I then went with an external filter. No more stress.

the service center bypassed ours while we were there and after it froze, previous to that we left the housing in place and didn't put a filter in and used an inline external filter

I bypassed mine also. It wasn't worth the hassle where it's at. I also wouldn't trust that cheapo hanger very long.

Here is a great deal on a water softener, which currently also includes free shipping. We use the RW filter with a good cartridge, not the one supplied by RW. I only change this once per year, at time of annual inspection.

We also use an in-line filter on the supply hose, which takes out choline and most metals, etc. We change the in-line one about every 3 months, or after any time it hasn't been used for over a month. In Canada each filter costs $50 - $55.

Just ordered a water softener and once it arrived we should have water almost comparable to the RO at home.

No kit, and without looking I don't remember how I did it. I seem to remember on mine there was enough hose at the filter to make the connection. You will need some clamps and something to crimp them with.

I must be the odd guy as i haven't had a problem changing my filter, no spills YET. It is a small PIA, I do think there is a lot of wasted space in there and would like to see what can be done to utilize more of that wasted space

Dan - with the FL the real PIA is emptying everything from the basement and then crawling through the basement, as the access door is at the rear. Unlike the RL our basement doesn't go all the way across the coach.

Once I get access and have the system depressurised it only takes a few seconds. Usually only lose a couple of drops of water when unscrewing the canister.

I learned from Dave and Ginny to use one of this collapsible buckets from camping world. I goes through the hole and then you can expand it inside to catch water.

PS, that is the only use I could find for that bucket. They won't hold water unless they are hanging.

Great idea, as I usually spill some when crawling back through the basement to empty the canister and replace the filter. Will try it next time.
