I usually dive with the cruise set at 55 mph using the GPS when towing and 64 mph or so not towing. I rarely pass anything since my max daily mileage is 350 to 400 miles. Spending 21 years flying at 500 ft above the ground at 600 ft/sec has satisfied my "Need For Speed".
Why 55?
Master Tow recommends a maximum towing speed of 55 mph when the dolly is loaded. This guideline helps ensure stability, safety, and proper handling—especially since tow dollies like the Master Tow 77T and 80THD don’t have suspension systems, relying instead on the towed vehicle’s suspension to absorb road shock.
I think the anger comes from those trying to drive the speed limit in the passing lane and all to frequently get blocked by someone driving some at some speed below the speed limit. That person impedes or prevent other drivers from driving the legal posted speed.Never saw or heard of "road rage" in the 1970's or 1980's... hmmm... what changed? Where did all the anger come from?? Maybe it's concentrated microplastics?![]()
I think it was there - it's just that the roads weren't as crowded as they are now.Never saw or heard of "road rage" in the 1970's or 1980's...
The reason I have ZERO empathy for these people is simple. The way I see it, if I approach you from behind on the Interstate, common sense says that I am driving faster than you. If a slow driver wanted to be courteous, they would simply get out of the way. But some view you in a RV as a slow moving vehicle; so they cut you off, and don't expect you to need to drive faster than them.Today I followed someone doing 47 in a 65 until we got to the passing lane and then it took 72 to get around him because he was doing 67.
How is it we haven't seen any of them justifying?
They're usually chirping right up.
Have we finally become indisputable in our logic?
It's rare to see females "road raging"... probably less than 5% of the impatient boys. They are usually just mindlessly tailgating while texting.I think it was there - it's just that the roads weren't as crowded as they are now.
When I was in Boy Scouts (yeah, back before dirt was invented...) we had an assistant scoutmaster who was the nicest guy - until he got behind the wheel. It was like Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde. He'd rage at anything/anyone and drove like a maniac. My friend & I (we were teenagers by then) wouldn't let any of the younger kids ride with him. He eventually got so many tickets due to his terrible driving he was required to take a class for aggressive drivers. We thought that'd be the end of it but, no. After "graduating" he'd chase down other drivers and try to make a citizen's arrest and send them to driver school...
I see it not as advocating for driving slow but for driving within reasonable limits. Too many see the speed limit as a suggestion. They think they can drive 5 to 10 over 'and not get caught'. I do agree that driving significantly slower than reasonable is not safe. Drive right and pass left - to each his own (within reason).I think some who have argued the virtues of slow speeds in the past, are starting to see the logic.
True until you meet the exception that proves the rule...It's rare to see females "road raging"... probably less than 5% of the impatient boys.
Maybe try a pit maneuver next time! That gets their attention every time!True until you meet the exception that proves the rule...
Riding my motorcycle to work one day there were 3 or 4 cars behind a slow car in the left lane. One by one they move over and pass her on the right (yes, it was a her). I was then behind her and waited a few minutes as the right lane was empty. After she made no effort to move over I switched on my headlight modulator. She slammed on the brakes (tires smoking & screeching). Since I was not tailgating I was able to brake and avoid a crash. I assumed I may have spooked her with the modulating headlight so I hung back and waited for her to move to the right lane. When she did not I again flashed the headlight modulator. Another tire screeching brake check. At this point I figured she wanted to kill me so I hung way back until the highway went from two to three lanes. As she continued (in the far left left lane) I passed her in the far right lane.
Hard to do with a motorcycle. Need a Crown Vic...Maybe try a pit maneuver next time! That gets their attention every time!![]()
The article is not about driving at reasonable speeds or speeding. The article is about new Law in Louisiana against those that drive in the passing lane and not driving at least the speed limit. Their point of emphasis is one mile under speed limit is illegal in passing lane so if enforced, at the police officer discretion you could be fined or eventually go to jail.I see it not as advocating for driving slow but for driving within reasonable limits. A few minutes ago, I was going to walmart. I was South bound on a 3 lane road about to dip to the left for 4th lane to make turn, I had the yellow light to make a safe turn if possible from the 3 lanes of Northbound traffic. Northbound actually had 5 lanes as one dedicated for left and one dedicated for right into the shopping center. It's rare to see females "road raging"... probably less than 5% of the impatient boys. Mixing impatience, temperament and firearms is a nasty mix. It's why I strive to avoid populated areas. Driving through some cities is like a high-speed demolition derby with firearms. YIKES!
Not unlike people who seem to have forgotten since their driver test how to execute a multi -way stop... 3-way, 4-way etc. Everyone's moving like clockwork (counter-clockwise) until ONE PERSON decides that text is more important than keeping the flow moving. They're usually the clueless maniacs in a roundabout too.A few minutes ago, I was going to walmart. So there is only one vehicle North bound and it was a She if it matters, she was in the far right to turn right into shopping center, but she saw me with my left signal was on. I was pushing for her to go ahead and make the freaking turn so I could turn behind her, but she just slowed down, by the time I got to turn she had stopped, so I was about to stop when I realized she was just waiting on me to stop so she could go. I just looked at her and drove on. She does not merit a license. She thinks she is driving safe, but she is dangerous. People like that get hit in the rear alot, but it is always someone's fault let them tell it.
Ohio has had the "keep right unless passing" since at least the late 1970's. State route 7 between Belpre and Marietta is divided access and was always posted with signs... something on the order of "Keep right unless passing - state law". People back then seemed to have more courtesy and respect for other drivers... and no CELL PHONE DISTRACTIONS.
Ohio state route 33 between Lancaster and Columbus (divided access) has gradually turned into a combination of the Autobahn, a drag strip and the Indy 500... drafting and all. The speed limit of 60 is merely a suggestion... 70 to 75 is common. On DIVIDED ACCESS with no on-ramps.
Why is this? Because there's absolutely NO enforcement AND no police patrol. 20 years ago you would see a minimum of a half dozen State Patrol cruisers and occasional sheriff. Traffic flowed at average of 63 -64 back then. Everyone got where they were going. Then everyone got in an all-fired hurry.
The point here is the lady had no stop. She had a green light plus she was just turning right. She was just scared had no business driving. She might have just been 30 as far as I know. But she stopped!!! I had a yellow turn arrow so I went. My angst was I was slowing down to turn behind her. I could have been gone if I knew she was going to stop. Not unlike people who seem to have forgotten since their driver test how to execute a multi -way stop... 3-way, 4-way etc. Everyone's moving like clockwork (counter-clockwise) until ONE PERSON decides that text is more important than keeping the flow moving. I mean... c'mon people! I'm 70 years old! I'm supposed to be that stereotype of the frail grandpa hunched over the wheel!![]()
