Finally bit by Schwintek!

My son is in the process of buying a 2025 Reflection 22rk 100 series. It Is equipped with the Slimrack slide system. I appreciate all of the information found here. I own a 2008 SunnyBrook Titan 33CKTS, that I purchased new. The two opposing salon slides are electric rack and pinion. Thankfully, no problems after all these years and over 120 trips. One large motor per slide and a manual “frame” bolt-driven override. My point being, they know how to do it right, I guess we could ask why they don’t.

I have been RVing for almost 28 years and have owned a number of units with slides. This is our first RV with the dual rack and pinion type slide. My guess is the industry switched over to this type of slide mechanism because the slide is driven at both the top and bottom which provides better support for the slide and requires less space at the bottom of the slide. The drawback is that both sides of the slide must stay synchronized. This is where most folks make a mistake and operate the new slides like the old type where you could just stop and start at will and even not drive the slide all the way out or in. With the new slide type you need to hold down the power button until the motors stall while extending or retracting the slide. That keeps both drive motors synchronized.

P.S. Our first three RV's were Sunnybrooks. We went to the very first Sunnybrook rally. Would probably still have the last 5th wheel Sunnybrook we owned but got the bug to try motorhomes.
