Fridge cabinet collapse

Here a new one. After filling the rig with fuel and Def we were exiting the truck stop when we heard a loud crashing sound. The DW looked to the back and told me the Whirlpool side by side refrigerator fell out of its cabinet. We were about 2 hours from our next stop so she called the campground and got the number for a mobile tech. The mobile tech was a waste of time. She then called CoachNet and explained the problem. Twenty minutes later CoachNet called back and gave us the name and number of an RV dealer in Madison, Ohio. When Kathy called she was informed that we’re expecting us and had a bay dedicated to traveling emergencies.

The problem is the cabinet the fridge sits in and base that raises it off the floor is made with cheap pressed paper boards and stapled together. The base collapsed pulling the top mounting boards apart and the fridge came to rest against the bathroom and dinette slide walls.

We pulled onto the dealers lot and after talking to the young service advisor 2 techs came out to assess the situation. Since it was close to closing time and I requested a good fix, the techs built some temp supports to get the fridge away from the furnace and repositioned so we could access the rear of the coach. Kathy asked the service advisor about hotels and the service advisor told us we could stay on their lot, which we agreed to do.

At 9 this morning the crew was hard at work building some base supports and a better mounting system for the top of the fridge. The service advisor and myself reviewed my ESP which expires next week and when she called they were closed due to the hurricane. At this time I found out that Ashley was just the Service Advisor, but this young lady was the sole owner of this RV and motorcycle dealership. During the conversation we decided to file a claim for a few other nit pick items.

If anyone ever needs service around Madison, Ohio look up Ashly at “Roughin’ it RV”. Her and her crew are outstanding.

Glad you found Ashley and her techs. Sounds like you will get a much better floor support than Thor put in.

We also have CoachNet. Brother-in-law had a good experience (all things considered) with them. But yes... results are dependent on who they hook you up with.

We predominantly travel in remote areas FAR away from metro areas, which could be a challenge for finding service. I guess the good ones are out there... ya just gotta find them!

That sucks that the paper cabinet fell apart, but it's great to know that some RV dealerships provide top notch service. Kudos to a great service department.
