Are there any settings that I can't seem to find, to adjust preferences such as how long to stay logged in?

Often when logged in and either just not finished viewing the unread threads, or even worse when half way into typing a post, I'll get distracted by other tasks....
then a few minutes later when I come back, the site wants me to log in again.

When mid post it's very clunky to get logged back in and not loose the post

and when I'm only half way through the unread threads, my sort is lost.... I guess I'm viewing the stuff new since my last login, and not the unread...so if there was a way to view unread threads/posts, then to mark everything as read, then this second issue wouldn't be an issue.

Been meaning to ask that question myself!

Yup!
You've got to stay on task, or find yourself logged off... :hide:
I blame my ADHD!

Even an overly long post, can end up getting you logged off...

Admin - Log off idle time too short

There is an active post abut being automatically logged out, and the time is too short. You can be logged out if you are typing a longer post. Is there a way to lengthen this time?

Thanks,
Mark

When you log in if you check the "remember me" box you'll stay logged in much longer. Er if you are logging in with a browser.

yeah, it's getting to the point that it's so annoying I'm considering stopping participation here.
Have been trying to come up with some alternate strategies for how to view and respond

I think the kicker for me is the way I view forums...night by category but by new posts since my last visit. That is critical to me. If my last visit is because of premature log-off then my whole timeline gets messed up

Thanks for teh tip, but I never allow browsers or sites to remember me.... so that seems like a not a solution for me....

I type my longer responses into Word and then copy them over. You would think that you are typing you could stay logged in.

I will "copy" my post before hitting the "Post Quick Reply" button. If it has logged me off, I just log back in and "paste" my response....IF...I can find the original thread.

We use cookies to keep you logged in and my guess is that if you're finding a change in how you are logged out, there has been a change in either your browser settings or security scheme to purge cookies.

When you first login, check the "remember me' box on the login screen. Next, make sure your system is allowing cookie exchange with the site.

thanks
but for security I'm not in the habit of checking those boxes. I don't want browsers storing passwords or sites storing too much about me. Am I misunderstanding the function of that checkbox?

The check box sets a login cookie on your device so that next time you return or as you navigate through the site, the server recognizes your device and keeps you logged in.
After 30 mins of inactivity the connection is severed.

That said, if you are purging cookies locally via browser settings or your security setup, this cookie will still be purged. it's entirely your choice... but these settings are likely the reason you are having trouble staying logged in.

That's kind of interesting...
I seem to get all sorts of misspelled and mis-typed names and passwords...
I'd like to clear all of them out of the way!
