Suddenly my bathroom receptacle is tripped and will not reset. Nothing has ever been plugged into it but it is causing several of my electrical outlets to have no power. Breakers in breaker panel are all on. AC is running. TV’s work. I am currently on generator power.

I pulled the outlet out of the wall and saw no water or shorted wires.
I reviewed the 120 electrical diagram and see that several outlets are in line with the bathroom GFCI which is why there is no power to some outlets.

Nothing is plugged in anywhere except the two televisions and they work as their outlets are not in line with the GFCI.

Any of those downstream outlets could be the problem Start with the outside receptacle and see if it has water in it - common issue.

The cheap ones are prone to failure. After checking all downstream outlets and everything looks alright, get a quality replacement at any big box store.

No water in outside outlet and not shorted hot to ground. I checked other downstream outlets with ohm meter and found none that show shorted hot to ground. Of course all are shorted neutral to ground since they are common to each other at the breaker box.

Forgot to ask - have you verified power to the GFCI in the bathroom? They will not reset without power.

If so, next step is to disconnect the downstream string and see if it will reset - if not, replace the GFCI outlet.

If it does reset, repeat the same procedure, connecting the next outlet but disconnecting the remaining outlets to see if it trips the GFCI.

BYW, have you done any projects lately that required drilling or driving ne screws that may have knicked a wire?

I agree that if no faults are found to replace the GFCI outlet. I assume the circuitry defaults to 'tripped' so if anything goes wrong (internally) it'll stay tripped.

And, while I am not an electrician I believe they'll also trip if there is a loose connection in the circuit - in other words, not only a short circuit.

Wires tight, no water (check outside ones too)- replace GFCI outlet. Thor and many others buy the cheapest thing they can find, and quality can be in question.
