My first motor home was a well used 21' Class C with no slides. It was a big step up from a tent, but also a real learning experience. You are smart to stay away from models with a corner bed.

For those looking at longer Four Winds models, the 31 footers cost about the same as a Vegas or Axis!

Wiring diagram for 24F?

I'm trying to understand the wiring, and the sales guys at different places are telling me different things. The question was can the kids watch a movie where we are driving. One place said yes it runs off house battery, the other said you need to run the generator. I didn't see a inverter listed anywhere so I'm guessing it's the latter.

A little reading also indicated an inverter and transfer switch was reasonably inexpensive, but wasn't sure how the circuits were broken up, if you had to do all 110, or if you could just do the TV and DVD player, and maybe an outlet for a laptop.

Most motorhomes these days come with an inverter because of the residential fridge or it may be an option you can add to a new motorhome purchase. Adding an inverter to a motorhome is not a big deal other than finding a good location for it and running the wire to where you want 110 inverter receptacle. If you want the same receptacle to also work off shore power, that wiring gets more complex. If you only want the TV powered while driving and maybe a DVD player, an inverter only receptacle at the TV would be the simplest way to go. Another option is a 12 volt TV that runs off your existing house battery.

The TVs in the coaches you mentioned only run on 110 volts. The easiest way to get the TV to work on the road is to run the generator. You can figure about a half gallon of gas per hour.

I installed a 1200 watt inverter in our Vegas, but not to run the TV on the road. We use it to run a small fan when we overnight without an electric hookup, and to power cell phone and computer chargers. I would have to run an extension cord and switch the TV plug to run the TV off the inverter.

You might also consider getting a ipad or laptop that they could watch a movie or play games on.
