Help! Wiper motor relay

Hi! New to the forum..I have a 1996 Thor Hurricane. We’ve owned the RV for 15 years and it’s really been good to us. However we’ve recently ran into a wiper motor issue. The motors will randomly turn on and off without any control. We actually had to take the blades off towards the end of summer to use the RV. So I’ve recently started diagnosing the issue. The motors seem to be working fine. The switch is also working good. The problem seems to be in the wiper relay control module. It’s corroded and doesn’t look to be in to good of shape. The problem is I can’t find a part number anywhere and trying to find this online has lead me no where. Any advise? See photos...

Wouldn't that be a standard FORD part? Not sure what comes with a striiped chassis and where the FORD/THOR delineation occurs in that system.

Saving the circuit board

Hi, maybe you can save the board by cleaning it with a small stiff brush and some isopropyl alcohol (I know it is dear at the moment). Just carefully work at the corroded areas and clean the remainder some what. If there are no damaged parts, just cleaning the corrosion betwixt the traces will do the trick as the corrosion will cause continuity and do funny things.

I believe also that would be a Ford part; hopefully a Ford dealer can help identify it.

No use in trying to clean the board however. I can see from the photo that several components are charred where they have overheated and are destroyed.

Doing a quick Google search, I found what looks to be this part several places. I searched for Ford wiper controller, etc.

Actually if you remove the WIPER MOTOR itself and on a clean surface Open the motor you will find that the contact area inside the motor is full of Grease thus causing your wipers to continue to operate or come on at times they are not needed or even Continue to run until the fuse is pulled thus disconnecting the power source

Clean the inside Of the wiper motor itself of Greece the grease inside the wiper motor is causing the contacts to short out amongst one another I speak from the experience of having to do this on a 2017 Thor hurricane model best of luck

Tore the motor apart and everything looks fine in there...the contacts are not dirty. Still no luck with the dealership either

For the motor to run (even intermittently as in your case) it requires an external voltage pulse. From schematics I reviewed, there is a + wire that goes to the motor control you show (#4 or the 2nd from the left) so if there is enough conductive dirt in that connector and your picture does show a very dirty motor connector, then maybe it would operate. So, clean that motor housing and connector with varsol or some parts cleaner to get the grime off.

I would still try washing the circuit board with iso, I do not see why it would be of "no use" as you did go to all the trouble of removing the motor. I do see where there may be burnt electronic parts, but until you try....

Any tips on finding the relay location? I’ve looked everywhere. I have a Thor 2016 34j and I’m stumped! Thanks!

Yours is a newer generation chassis and is likely different.


In any event, the control module is on the base of the firewall behind the steering column shaft.
